Why do males have an abortion opinion?

this thread was started on a different forum by a lady who has since passed away. her nickname was Inferno. it has almost 180000 looks and close to 5000 replies.

The fetus is not growing in you. Your body is not being altered. You are not the one who gets sick in the morning. The fetus in the female body only pertains to the female. What is the big deal with all the anti abortion males?

Is it just a control issue for males? Do you see it as just a way to push your male agenda on the women of the world?

    Why do women have computers?

Men by and large still run the planet. I really don't see why women should get a say in anything.

But abortion. You guys can have abortion.

    See? We can be fair.

Katie - I will kick off the answers with something a little unusual for an internet forum - an anthropological view.

The males will of course have less of a say - or even interest in a purely matrilineal society - of which there are not that many in the world

This is an interesting take on the "culture war" in America surrounding abortion

Fetuses, by contrast with adult women, are not uppity. They can be defended at election time along with Motherhood, Apple Pie and the American Flag, thereby sending political adversaries into disarray. Fighting For The Fetus wins Hearts, Minds and Votes. The Fetus becomes a Fetish Object to be defended. It works. Defenders of the Fetus win elections. Look at Bob Dole, who was losing his bid for re-election in 1974 until, a week before the election, he started calling his obstetrician-gynecologist opponent An Abortionist. It worked. Dole won. It didn’t matter that Dr. Roy had delivered thousands of babies and had done only a few abortions for serious medical reasons.

I will keep looking for anthropological/sociological "takes" on this subject because I think we may find NEW answers there

Well you know my general position on abortion, but I must admit this thread has possibly the least productive title for an abortion "debate" I've ever seen.

It essentially invites argument. I'm not surprised the original thread got 5,000 replies and more than half were probably bitter, angry, resentful, or otherwise dead ended.

If the intent is an honest-to-god (hehehe) debate on abortion, asking why men have an opinion at all isn't the way to do it.

i revisit this question because if males wore condoms and they were 80% effective they would eliminate that many abortions. on the other hand a woman could take a pill and change her entire body. there is a waring on the box. what would be the problem with men wearing condoms?

What would be the problem with women refusing to have sex unless the man wore a condom?

the intent is to ask men why they have an opinion when it is obvious that they don't wear condoms during sex much of the time. if they don't try to do their part to prevent them how can they have an opinion?

I'm pro-choice, but I would hope that if a girlfriend/wife of mine was ever thinking about getting an abortion, she would consult me on the matter. It's not like men don't have an emotional attachment to a child of theirs, even if they aren't dealing with the birth physically.
