So you want us to invade and start running that country? Really? Know anything about warfare? Ever taken a look at a topographical map of Iran? That's insane. It would be easier to secure basic human rights for North Koreans.

We tried and we failed in Iran and need to leave the ME and Iran alone. The ME is not a problem of the US...we have many problems of our own. It is time to stop wasting resources on the ME...no one wins a war in the ME. They don't want us over there anymore. With the CIC we have right now, helping Iran militarily would be a disaster.

The Shah was brutal too. We didn't care about Iranian people, we just wanted a government friendly to us.

The best argument the elders in Iran have, when it comes to the uprising, is assumed interference from the West; while the economy there is a stinging rebuke for the mullahs, it would never been considered reasonable for us to involve ourselves; two reasons:

    1) the pre-destination mind set of the Persians, they are superior in many ways to other countries, and I think relief is coming their way thru agreements on oil with Iraq. That's the biggest complaint from the young, lack of opportunity, growth etc.

    2) Our interference in the '50's have forever cemented the mind set that we are not too smart in the West; (with good reason).

I don't think our intervention would be welcomed, in fact, I think Nicki Haley is sounding like a neo con more and more every day, I think she's been influenced too much by that group, and considering her forte was finance, and not foreign policy, never studied it, was never exposed to it prior this appointment, I am not surprised.

Even Condi, is not the neo con she used to be. She evolved.

So, there are still a portion who carry those beliefs so strongly that they would kill their own children / spouses. How many wind up getting beaten and it's never discovered because the headdress covers the wounds?

Btw, the anecdote sounds like someone who had lived most of all of their lives out of that culture... There are anecdotes of born again Christians, who become so absolutist that they can't watch game of thrones because it endorses prostitution and other sins. I wasn't eliminating that as a possibility.
Fundamentalist Christians abuse and sometimes kill their family members in the name of their religion.

    Are you serious?

Out of all the countries in the world guilty of human rights violations, you think Iran is the place we should put our foot down

What a coincidence you and Netanyahu just happen to have the same view of this. No offense, but the minute anyone who's pro-Israel starts expressing heartfelt concern over the plight of the Iranian people it strikes me as about as sincere as David Duke announcing his support for BLM.

This is a diversion from the point, that the hijab is a mark of oppression, not female liberation... Which is why in Iran, the women are removing them at the first opportunity.

It is neither. It's a mark of piety--oppressive when it is required, liberating when it is voluntary. Anyone who is free to practice their religion in their own way finds that experience liberating--in comparison to the state of most humans through most of civilization.
