I sincerely doubt that the vast majority of the counter protesters had any intention to engage in violence, nor had ever even heard of the so-called "Antifa".

This was not a "both sides doing it" event.

You don't pretend they don't exist. You just don't feed them. They eat anger and hate and violence and it makes them stronger, makes them seem like they're much bigger than they are. Starving them of attention and refusing to grant them legitimacy in the public discourse will force them to shrivel up and die, or declare, and push harder, and get arrested.

Let the criminals be criminals before you attack them. Otherwise, not only does it play on Fox, it's actually TRUE that they are being denied the right to free speech.
Yea that's just it, now the left looks like the bad guys for taking away their free speech and leading to this. Even some who denounced this weekends events, have said it has been building up with the anti Trump resistance who didn't give him a week before they protested him. They "tried to make him fail" was my favorite comment. Its why I wish they would have waited to begin the resistance, Trump has already given them more ammunition than they could have imagined. But beginning so early its making them look like they are victims. Its like you say, it starts on FOX and spreads like wildfire everywhere with black hooded people smashing windows on college campuses because a conservative wants to speak. Heard a woman on the local news say she wanted to no longer have public schools teach the Civil War because she said it taught about racism and gave it a positive spin. Yea that's what we want don't teach history...

Maybe not but it was well organized and people came from far away to be there. Groups are organizing already for this weekend in Boston. So while they may not be true members of the Antifa most do claim to be the resistance which most people feel are essentially the same thing.

What that means is that the right wing propaganda machine is winning if people think anyone opposed to Trump is Antifa. We need to fight that.

No. "Most people" don't think the way you do.

Agree but the media doesn't do a very good job. I have had both CNN and MSNBC on since this weekend and they keep referring to resistance/Antifa movement. Even showed Sen Warren at Netroots this weekend referring to the resistance as "fighting hate." People generally are lazy and just figure they are all the same, put all in the same box type of thing. Its hard to fight it when the right wing media keeps re-showing Kathy Griffin with Trumps head and the kids that broke windows when Ann Coulter was set to speak. Forward to FOX news claiming "the left wants to silence the right."
