The importance of wallpaper and a message to counter-protesters

So I've been watching CNN and MSNBC today, not continuously because I was at work, but enough to see the same video a dozen times of the WNs and the counter protesters "clashing" on the street. And the guy screaming with the chains around him.

This is what the WNs wanted. This is what they posted on their site, The Daily Stormer:

OKAY. THE EVENT IS OVER. THE POLICE SHUT EVERYTHING DOWN. NO ONE CAN ASSEMBLE ANYWHERE WITHOUT GETTING ATTACKED AND BEATEN BY COPS.JUST GO TO YOUR EVENING EVENTS. THE STREET WAR HAS ENDED.WE WON. WE SHOWED THAT OUR IDEAS HAVE TO BE SHUT DOWN WITH VIOLENCE. THEY HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE.
They were deliberately provoking everyone by being as offensive as possible to get the reaction they got and they did. Now they've given right wing apologists and those who refuse to see the racism of the alt right the cover they need to defend Trump's non-reaction. You can't tell from the videos who's doing what or who started what. Confusion gives cover to the idea that the WNs were just defending themselves.

How about next time, counter-protesters wear white t-shirts with this:

on the BACK of the shirt and then surround the protest or line the streets of the marches and turn your back on them. That way, if there's a confrontation, we'll all know immediately from any video taken who's the aggressor.

Don't leave room for these fucks to weasel out of blame.

Thing is they want the attention but I also think they want to be shut down. That way they can run around saying they were discriminated against and the first amendment doesn't apply. Scores them points with some more that way. There is another alt right rally in Boston next Saturday and the mayor is trying to prevent them from being there. Dumb, as that's playing right into what they want, to be victims. Then they can go on the news all next week and say how they were denied their right to speak. It would be better if they were just completely ignored.

I don't think pretending they don't exist is the answer, but the images of the first night of nazi salutes and chants of "blood and soil" should be what the public sees and let them decide for themselves who these people are.

Its a hard thing. When I first moved to NH, there was a WN rally nearby and literally there were 8 people that showed up. Nobody really paid attention. Then some local alderman got the idea they shouldn't be allowed to march and lo and behold the next year there were thousands from all over that showed up. Today a few thousand still march. It really opened the door and let them in and they recruit at colleges and such to get more people. Even people that hated them defended their right to march. So its one of those things where they crave the attention but at the same time how do you alert young people to their danger? I was blown away how many youth were there and apparently gaming forums is their biggest recruitment tool.

I think it is time to declare these white-nationalist groups terrorists and root them out once and for all.

You cannot root out lunatics. They're free to think what they want. Ignoring them is the worst possible punishment for them. If they do anything illegal, you arrest them, just like everyone else. If they march chanting their bullshit, you walk past them on your way to the bakery and ignore them.

You don't show up with your own anger on your sleeve, carrying a baseball bat, shouting and screaming at them. Who fucking cares? They're a miniscule minority of people, but their power and stature is amplified many times over by the press this sort of shit attracts. There are piece of shit nazis marching all the time, doing their little rally thing, but if nobody pays any attention to them, if people point at them and smirk and say, "Look, isn't that sad, they can't get a real job. Let that be a lesson to you, Junior: stay in school so you don't end up angry and chanting like an idiot..." this just blows away and they look like the fools that they are, the immeasurably small minority of fools in the nation.

And what's more, they have a RIGHT to their idiotic, childish, shitty point of view.

We have a right to ignore them, to refuse to do business with them, to distance ourselves from that behavior. We can asphyxiate that kind of shit by starving it of attention. The events of this weekend make them seem bigger and more important.

Makes me continue to regard so-called antifa as an ironically named bunch, since their antics do nothing except give alt-right types something to point at and call "the left", fueling the fire of the whole us vs them thing, making everything worse for everyone. They're serving a common purpose, which is making civilized people think that these groups are much more numerous and powerful than they are.

I agree. Showing up to "counter protest" is like saying, here we are too look at us demonstrating against your right to be racist lunatics. I mean sure its legal and all, but as we saw last weekend, they begin the shouting and the throwing and before long all hell breaks loose and suddenly the racists are victims, "we were here peacefully protesting and these bad lefties showed up." It plays massively on FOX and other conservative programs. Then before you know it, it becomes this first amendment thing where nobody lets them put a flag on a mailbox or something. Totally disconnected.

The thing is, right wing racist groups are growing and feel emboldened. Just ignoring them and hoping they'll go a away isn't going to work. But I certainly wish law enforcement wouldn't allow them to intimidate them as they did in Charlottesville.

There is enough video in the world to do what needs to be done. Put their faces online. If they show up in some town where they're going to take down the confederate flag and interfere, and Opie's dad isn't armed to the teeth with an AR-15 and cannot safely handle them, then arrest them LATER and charge them with whatever they've done wrong.

You don't pretend they don't exist. You just don't feed them. They eat anger and hate and violence and it makes them stronger, makes them seem like they're much bigger than they are. Starving them of attention and refusing to grant them legitimacy in the public discourse will force them to shrivel up and die, or declare, and push harder, and get arrested.

Let the criminals be criminals before you attack them. Otherwise, not only does it play on Fox, it's actually TRUE that they are being denied the right to free speech.

It also gives the impression that perhaps the police agreed with the protests. Its been suggested for quite some time and now we are seeing at least 2 openly defiant officers coming out and mocking what happened there. If the police and military go across that line, can we ever go back? They are supposed to be holding the line to some extent as to keeping us together and under one flag. If they choose a side, I just don't know what to think. It would be far worse than we think.
