Madeline, there was a great program on the History channel about the Pinkertons killing strikers. From being a good force they slowly changed into thugs.

My Son was shacked to see what happened to strikers. He was even a Business Agent in his Engineers Union, but had no idea how hard it was for Union beginnings.

Teddy Roosevelt smashed the big cartels, Carnegie and Rockefeller.

That is why the History channel is so importatant. My family loves it.they even showed the Missing Books of the Bible.
Thanks! I will try to track that documentary down.

Oliver Stone has a fabulous series of documentaries called "The Untold Story of America'.

    Streaming on Amazon Prime.

I know some think he is a bit nutty, but he explains WWII brilliantly. I trust this because he then gets the Vietnam War right.

Ken Burns is coming out with a new one on the Vietnam war.

The Jeff Flake book is the best I have read.a small book, but Jeff tells it as he sees it. I have like him for years, but when he sprinted across the base ball field that was still dangerous to stop Steve Scalise from bleeding to death, I consider him a hero. And despise Trump for bad mouthing him. Jeff is an honorable American.
    Thanks from Madeline

It's out. PBS/Roku and Amazon Prime both have the new Burns Vietnam War documentary.

What, no kids in high school at your house?

Take a stroll to the HS library and look at the American history textbooks they use.

Texas is able to dictate which books public schools across the country use. (Not sure why, but they can.)

The scandal last year was slavery was dedcribed in ONE PARAGRAPH as "African immigrants, who enjoyed learning to farm".

Now, I got this off the news. I haven't had a HS kid at home since 1999.

But I had to teach her about such things as the Trail of Tears on my own. I was appalled at what was left out.

Things have not improved since 1999. Of that, I'm sure.
    Thanks from chaos

I have an 8th grader and he had a month long unit on slavery and the Civil War last year and I can assure you it wasn't about learning to farm. In 5th grade he had to choose a Civil Rights era person to do a short report on. He chose Jackie Robinson.

I'm always amused by these "the sky is falling" takes on education from people who don't have kids in school.

That explains how white christian males became anti-worker; they believe the revisionist history of religious fundamentalist.
