Letter from a Freeman to his forner slave owner.

    Fascinating,,,

The plantation owner was pleading with this former slave to bring the crops in, otherwise he faced financial ruin, which happened anyway and he died at the age of 44.

The letter, however, from Jourdon Anderson, is remarkable; the words are timeless.

Smart move to ask for compensation for his lifetime of labor. Even smarter not to go back to Tennesse...not even for a million dollars.

Because we can see even in today's society. When someone considers you a N****r, even when you have a million dollars, you are still just a N*****r with a million dollars.

Perfect. I love it that he calculates what the slave owner owes him and his wife in back wages and then tells him to thank the guy who stopped the jerk from shooting him, lol.

Wow. The letter is brilliant, but the lack of humanity in the former slave owner is sad. And it's even sadder that even in this day and age there are still people who think slavery was a good deal for African Americans.

The part about the women is particularly disgusting.

The ultimate entitlement culture existed with slave owners. Looks like the master couldn't manage to run his farm without free labor, too bad the property wasn't divided equally between ex-slaves when he lost it.

And people scoff at the idea of reparations. I think the letter puts it in perspective quite well.
    Thanks from Babba and Panzareta
