It's just a blog, but this reflects how many of us are feeling right now. It's been this way since the election, but every time stuff like this happens, the fear and tension ratchet up a notch. And stuff like this has been happening with increasing frequency in this administration.

Sarah Margon, the Washington director of Human Rights Watch (HRW), an international civil rights group, said there is "great reason to be concerned" about Pompeo's past record on LGBTQ issues.

"There could be some very serious consequences both here in the U.S. and also around the globe," she said. "Tillerson didn't really go after the LGBT portion of foreign policy. Now you're going to see someone who, if confirmed, is explicitly anti-LGBT, and I think you're going to see reversals in policy. It's very dangerous." (source above)

Pompeo is in the pocket of the Family Research Council, an SPLC "Hate Group" dedicated to the eradication of LGBT people's rights, if not the people.

    How nasty could it be?

Brynn Tannehill, a respected journalist who is also trans and who has connections in DC wrote the following on Facialbook:

This has been rumored for months. It's also devastating news for transgender people in the US. Mike Pompeo is strongly aligned with the Family Research Council. One of the top goals of the FRC is preventing transgender people from getting government ID with accurate gender markers.

I have confirmed with contacts at State that they can, and do, know how to track which people have changed their passport gender markers in the past. At a minimum, I expect the current passport gender marker policy to be done away with in the next year. At worst, they are perfectly capable of revoking the passports of transgender people in the US who have changed their gender markers.

If Pompeo moves to do the latter, run. Just, get out, there's nothing left to save.

On October 5, 1938, the Reich Interior Ministry revoked the passports of all German Jews.

You think your passports will get revoked? Get a grip. We have separation of powers, and thank God for that. We are heavily reliant upon the Judicial Branch to survive the Orange Monster, but we will survive him. He's not going to be allowed to revoke passports of LGBT or turn the military against us all.

Today the WBC is targeting an elementary school less than an hour from me, and inflicting their hate on elementary school students.

Today, the Trump Administration released changes to the federal Bureau of Prisons Transgender Offender Manual that undercuts constitutional protections and efforts in federal law – specifically the Prison Rape Enforcement Act (PREA) – to protect all prisoners from sexual assault and violence.

Richard Saenz, Lambda Legal Staff Attorney and Criminal Justice and Police Misconduct Strategist, releases the following statement:

“Once again, the Trump Administration is turning its back on those most vulnerable. It is well established that transgender prisoners – particularly transgender women housed in men’s facilities – suffer much greater rates of sexual abuse than other prison populations.

"A California study found that when transgender women are housed with men, they are 13 times more likely to be sexually assaulted than male prisoners in the same facilities.

As more and more protections are rolled back, not just against trans people but against the LGB's as well, I can't help but think of what was happening 85 years ago and how the people justified it, or turned away because it didn't affect them.

Today, Buttgereit would almost certainly be described as transgender rather than transvestite. Throughout the 1920s, Hirschfeld edged closer to the idea, and used the expression “total transvestitism” to describe it. In his 1926 book Sex Education, Hirschfeld published anonymous photographs of Buttgereit in the section titled “Total Transvestitism.” “That’s more or less the equivalent of transgender identity the way we’d think of it today,” Beachy says. People who sought to transition medically were given access, by Hirschfeld, to experimental hormone therapies and even early sex reassignment surgeries.

Historians don’t know how much protection from harassment, by police or members of the public, “transvestite passes” ultimately gave their holders, Beachy says. “How many people actually received them, what their influence would have been exactly—it’s really hard to say.” But, in the two decades after they were first issued, the cultural climate had shifted, and it became easier and easier for transvestites, or transgender people, to wear whatever clothing they liked.

Queer activism, led by Hirschfeld and many of his colleagues, friends, and acquaintances, was having an impact. The Institute “championed the principle that science, rather than religious morality, ought to dictate how state and society responded to sexuality,” writes Laurie Marhoefer, in Sex and the Weimar Republic. By 1929, many forms of female sex work had been legalized. There were scores of gay, lesbian, and “transvestite” publications. And Germany came very close to repealing a law prohibiting sex between two men. There was a selection of transvestite bars in Berlin, including the famous Eldorado, which attracted throngs—straight and queer alike.

But in the early 1930s, the rise of Nazism brought it all to an end. In May 1933, students and armed soldiers broke into the Institute and confiscated its library. Less than a week later, at a public book burning in the city center, they destroyed tens of thousands of irreplaceable photographs and scholarly works on human sexuality. Hirschfeld, who was lecturing in the south of France at the time, watched on a newsreel as his life’s work went up in flames. He never returned to Germany.

Okay, one simply has to salute any reference to the works and influence of Magnus Hirschfeld. For those who believe that the Gay rights movement in the U.S. began with Stonewall, there's a direct link between Hirschfeld and the Mattachine Society and the homophile movement and thus the Daughters of Bilitis and so on. Hirschfeld was a pioneer, a man ahead of his time in many ways. It's a shame the Nazis managed to erase as much of his legacy as they did. That is indeed a lesson we would be well served to remember. Thanks for bringing it up.

    Cheers.

This sounds like bullshit. Where did this happen? What you are implying is that there had to be several transgendered women ...who harassed women sexually. Transgendered women do not sexually harass women

Really? There are rapists who identify as trans. I think it was this very thread I posted articles about this in. 'Pre-op' 'Transwomen' housed with other women, and the other women were forced to shower with people who had penises and wanted to use them in women. That is wrong.
