The black jaguar was my avatar for years.

Nothing as fierce, powerful and beautiful.

When we first moved to Florida, we built a house in a previously undeveloped area. One afternoon, I went out to get the mail from our rural mailbox across the street. As I stood there I caught a movement out of the corner of my eye. When I looked I saw a Black Panther walking away from me at about 100 feet to my right. I held my breath and prayed he didn't come after me. He never looked back. Being that I wore a prosthetic leg, I would have had no chance of getting away if he attacked. I'll never forget it. I've been scared before. Hell, I fought in Vietnam but I've never been that shaken before or since.

I remember his tail dragging on the pavement behind him and his shoulders as they rose and fell when he walked. We put the house up for sale the next day. We had just moved in after a seven month wait as it was being built. I'd heard of brown panthers in Florida, they're quite common but I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Before we finally sold we saw Bobcats on our doorstep at night and we regularly saw eastern diamondback rattlesnakes crossing our street. Couple that with the lake that was in our back yard and the massive Gators we'd see every day and it was quite an experience.

We now live in a developed area near the beach but we still see Bobcats quite often.

You and me both and don't get me started on the endless recycling of Star Wars. I've given up on Hollywood and I'm more into European cinema at the moment. They at least explore relevant themes as opposed to mindless escapism.

I'm not big on super hero movies, i watch them with my kids but respect that not only is there a black superhero but an awesome one which is played by an actor who is knocking it out of the park. So many of these bomb that it's nice to see an apparently good product especially considering it's got some in the master race banged up enough to put out negative propaganda.

Hancock is a black super-hero. This is not a first.

I'm old and not a comic fan, so to me a superhero is a character for kids.

yeah, but it's fascinating to see the characters we read in comics as kids come to life on the big screen.
