It's peculiar, but yes, I would dismiss it BUT FOR the exploitation and profit-seeking Dolzeal undertook.

She didn't want to JUST be black. She wanted to be the heroine, the long-suffering, nearly sainted martyr type black woman.

I'm sure she imagined Cecily Tyson would be cast as her in the movie she imagined would be made about her life.

It's as creepy as getting a faux Nazi concentration camp number tattoo by a deluded person who never was inconvenienced by anti-semitism.

My guess is there are some racial differences, like Laplanders being adapted somewhat to consume milk products or some Africans having sickle cell (sometimes a disease) as a defense against malaria, but in American most people have become a bit of everything. So race just seems to be a social issue or more of a political issue.

Sure, there are genetic defects and diseases. And plenty of other kinds of genetic traits that are concentrated in certain groups.

But, biology sciencey, this is akin to finding a high concentration of six toed cats in Key West. Interesting, sure. But all Key West cats can reproduce with any domestic cat and the coupling could produce fertile offspring.

Humans are not differentiated enough to be distinguishable as separate species or even subspecies.

I'd agree with that except that well, you can have offspring with another species (which is why they had laws protecting sheep). There's already proofs of other species such as Neanderthal and others in the genetic make up of humans.

Different races does not = different species.

    It is.

The whole concept of "race' is a social invention not supported by science. There are just as many genetic variations between black people as there are between black, brown or white people. So there is no different "race" of human being. We are all just as similar or dissimilar from one another regardless of the amount or type of melanin in our skin. It would be basically the same as suggesting all blue-eyed people are a race or that all green or brown-eyed people are their own race. We would all be quick to dismiss such a categorization as silly or stupid - yet we do something that is equally as foolish every day in our society when we refer to black, brown, or white people as their own race.

As Kanye correctly said: there is only one race - the human race.

Yes, and if there were any other humanoids now living other than homo sapiens, you could probably argue successfully for a division into subspecies.

    But there aren't.

I think evolution says humans are part of the apes grouping, so considering apes there would be some divisions. Are there divisions of modern humans, no I don't think so but there are probably variations based on historical associations with non-human types. How important or not that seems is less scientific than political though.

True, but a social invention we cannot, as a society, reasonably rid ourselves of.
