Probably talking about how much fun they were going to have at the prom.

That would naturally make them very suspicious. Having fun while being black is very much frowned upon in this new Trumpian America.

You might think that there's been some sort of uptick in this sort of thing, and I suppose maybe there has, but it's been going on for decades.

I really hate this "see something say something" stuff. It has turned the US into Gladys Kravitz. I read a book about the history of Irish immigrants in Boston and they said how the "locals" would call the police over for every little thing the Irish or their families did. Some even called them "lacy curtain Irish" and would call the police because they put curtains up in their windows so of course they meant they were up to something. smh

Wish they'd been right about that.
It was never in the past. Its been here all along. They have been in hiding amongst us. Now they can just make a call and know law enforcement will be there.

Very easy to judge. I worked in a shop years ago, we kept an eye on a guy who wasn't scruffy as such but looked dodgy. He came over and said he wanted to buy a bike. So he paid for and went out with the most expensive bike we'd stocked!!

Some groups stand out and cause more problems but not everyone belonging to those groups do.

There is no such thing as White Privilege.

What is the antonym to privilege? That is what black folk have.

Where is this list of "problems" by which one should judge people of a group? Where do Nordstom's employees go to view this list?

Does the list ...list the group and their associated 'problem[s]'?

Where can I go see this list?

I've never personally seen Mt. Everest, but I don't doubt that it exists.

Well, I do!! Big thing, just stickin' out in the sky like that?!? No way! Not buyin' it! They may have fooled you, but they're not foolin' me! I was born and raised in Iowa, and it's flatter'n a pancake! The winds we would get in winter would knock over any mountains faster than you could whistle Dixie! So, NOPE! Ya gotta PROVE to me that this so-called Mt. Everest is REAL! Because I AIN'T BUYIN' IT, lady!!

The sad thing? No one thought to ask why there were so GD many stories!! (I got tired of being the only one who gave a shit so I pretty much let up on them. And of course we GOT Trump!)

These kids were shopping for stuff for their PROM. Nice memories, huh?
I don't remember which store, but an upscale one a few years ago, they really had egg on their face. It was an actor who was in a hit show, literally on his way to an award show, if I remember correctly, but they didn't recognize him. Accused him of trying to buy a watch with a fake credit card or steal the watch.

That was embarrassing for them. He could buy as many fancy watches as he wanted. This was a gift for his mother.

Around the same time, another story went viral. A young black college student saved up for an expensive belt. Was also accused of using a stolen credit card.

To me that one seemed soul crushing to the young working, studious man. He was told he 'couldn't possibly' afford the belt. Why in the fuck couldn't he? Ugh.
