Would you do a DNA drug screen for a Dr.?

I wouldn't, but I did. Since I didn't have time for the pain, I couldn't walk out and take time to find another Dr.

    I'm really pissed about it.

What is a dna drug screen and why would you need to do one for a Doctor?

    WTF?

What was it, an ordinary doctor or some kinda clinic or something?

Was it your PCP, and if so was it stated that it was required for insurance?

You chew on this thing so they get your saliva. Just ordinary hydrocodone. Sheesh!

He says the DNA is up the butts of all docs handing out controlled substances. I call bullshit. He RUNS a clinic for more hard-core stuff, but I'm not in it.

Yes, that is definitely BS. You can still get Vicodin online without a scrip, and if your man is handing out methadone or something I'd find another doctor, 'cause most of those guys are shady in some way.

Here is the question to ask the doctor's assistant (not the doctor himself): what are the reporting requirements for this information?

According to HIPAA which is still law, your medical records are completely private, they can't even be given to law enforcement without a warrant.

The only people who get to see your records are the insurance companies, for billing purposes.

So if your guy says "cops", ask him to see the warrant. If he can't produce it, call the AMA and have him shut down.

What is the DNA? I thought you meant they were making you take a dna test, but now it sounds like something different?

Actually, it sounds like you went to a new doctor, who doesn't have a history with you, and asked for a synthetic (semi-synthetic? not sure) opiate drug, and he gave you a test to make sure you weren't already on drugs, and one of those drug-seeking doctor shoppers, ala Rush Limbaugh.

Actually, Florida has a really bad rep for having pain pill mills.

I still don't get it, he's screening you for drug abuse? Maybe it helps with his insurance which in turn keeps his costs to you somewhat managable? Was he a dick about it? I don't know, personally I share everything with my doctor so I can get his best professional opinion of why I'm so awesome. If he wants a test to prove what I'm saying is true, as long as I'm not paying for it, I'll do it.

I'm ok with tests personally, as long as they're for advancing my doctor's knowledge. I would absolutly not take a test as a condition for employement, no way even if I were "clean".

He says HE wants to know if I'm doing other drugs. Where is the trust?

If you consider surprising it on me and holding my pain meds hostage being a dick, then yeah.
