The Independent suggest that Mexican officials may have been involved:

Reports indicate that the last batch of JFK assassination documents may also contain several references to Oswald’s travels to Mexico City in September 1963, just two months before Kennedy was killed in his motorcade. The documents could detail the actions of prominent Mexican officials who at the time may have provided information to the CIA and other American agencies just before the assassination.

Others note that the JFK documents could contain information on CIA agents involved in monitoring phone calls in Mexico City, or involved in larger spy operations in Central and Latin America.

    Gerald Posner:

“There may not be deep, dark secrets in there, but the release could be embarrassing to people who were involved,” Mr Posner, whose book determined that Oswald acted alone in the killing, said. “You have to remember that Mexico City in the 1960s was a hodgepodge of intrigue where everyone was spying on everyone else.”

JFK files release: When are they coming out, and what do we already know? | The Independent

The Mirror are running with the following headline:

JFK assassination files released: Recap updates as Kennedy files reveal Lee Harvey Oswald might not have been real gunman

But they link back to an earlier story they ran on the subject regarding a Dallas Policeman being the culprit.

What information could possibly "harm national security?" I'm asking you to speculate.
I have no interest in speculating. I have no more knowledge of what is in the documents than do you, and I see nothing to gain by guessing.

Well, if there was government involvement, that would be a national risk of security because of the disenfranchisement that this would create.

There could be a whole host of reasons that have nothing to do with the assignation ...per se that the IC would still want kept secret.
OK. If that's the case then we'll NEVER know what is in the files. As long as the USA exists as a country, there could be compromise to other people or countries. Right?

I don't believe any of it. Oswald did it.....alone. I'm firmly convinced.

I thought the same thing, why would they fight to hide this if it didn't make them look bad or they were behind it. The fact it was sealed for this long also points to a conspiracy

the CIA had SOME involvement. J Edgar.. KNEW that and OBSTRUCTED JUSTICE. Most details.. got lost foresvber butt THOSE facts seem quite solid. i doubt Oswald ever shot. He seemed to GET how he was set up to be blamed but he had no escape plan.

Oswald ? His HISTORY says... CIA decoy.

Whatever would be in there - and even if the CT crazies would get their confirmation, that the CIA killed him (absurd, but just for the argument) - how could this still TODAY be a national security risk ?
You don't understand the connections between his assassination and many other things, things that affect our global policy today.

    They are interlinked.

Most people believe it was the fired CIA director (forget his name at the moment) who was the only one with the knowledge and assets to pull this off, that's not the issue, the issue is the subsequent cover-up of it and the framing of Oswald.

    This has far reaching effects.

There are, IMO two possible reasons, and in fact they may both contribute to the decision. First, it may be to protect the image of an American Icon, JFK. Secondly, it may be because they would show how badly the FBI et al screwed up.

My two cent's worth. If we were saying it is because of some weird Illuminati plot with a nefarious purpose, then it would be a conspiracy discussion. This is more a discussion on the potential causes of an actual event.
