Fishless oceans by 2050 | Apocalypse

    THE GIST
•Fishless oceans could be a very real possibility by 2050.
•According to the UN, 30 percent of fish stocks have already collapsed.
•One billion people, mostly from poorer countries, rely on fish as their main animal protein source.

This doesn't sound like a big problem. Fish is widely known as "brain food." With the Tea Party Republicans in charge, no one will need a brain.

Actually it's a contest to see which species lives and dies on this planet. Man thinks he has the upper hand but in actuality he will end up like the Joe who bombed the world until there was nothing left and he crawls outta his hole and exclaims I WON! BY GOD I Have WON!!

    ... more hysteria.

Overfishing is an issue, no doubt. The industry is regulated, alternative "fish farms" are becoming more popular, the price of fresh fish is increasing, water quality is an issue - all that shit has an impact.

Will we eat and/or kill every fish in the oceans over the next 40 years? That's just fucking stupid. It's beyond stupid.

Imagine the ecological catastrophe that would ensue if every single minnow in the oceans vanished. I don't think the person who penned this piece of brilliance has any fucking clue what he's talking about.

I am going fishing for Salmon , Sturgeon, Sea bass and whatever else I can get this year. I found that is year is supposed to be one of the top five years for fishing since 1948. Now here is the catch. The salmon that I can keep is only farm raised. The rest of the fish is wild as far as I know. If the ocean fails to produce wild fish , then the farm fish will always be produced. Things like Dams and overfishing have reduced the numbers of fish as well as the lack of plankton . Fish eat fish, so if the numbers decline thats a problem

Yeah, I'm a big fisherman also.

I knock them dead in the springtime (in a couple weeks), trout. Musta caught 50 last year and I keep them. Stockies, they don't last in the streams long because of lack of food source.

Same for salmon, though I only go salmon fishing a few times a year.

Damn those greedy poor people. I'm sure if comes down to commercial fisheries or them, we'll just have to require they starve. They are stealing those fish from the job creators!

Trivia: When fisherman in the southern oceans were catching Patagonian Toothfish, they were very popular locally. However, lucrative sales to northern countries were poor, largely in part to the unappetizing name of the fish. The fish was renamed, and sales improved so dramatically that the Patagonian Toothfish is now in danger of overfishing. The more appealing name was "Chilean Sea Bass."
