A million dollars should buy a million votes

CEO businessman Tom Perkins who came into controversy last week with his comments about Nazis now says that only taxpayers should vote. Wow. You guys think other rich CEOs think this way too?

"Tom Perkins suggested Thursday that only taxpayers should have the right to vote -- and that wealthy Americans who pay more in taxes should get more votes.

The venture capitalist offered the unorthodox proposal when asked to name one idea that would "change the world" at a speaking engagement in San Francisco moderated by Fortune's Adam Lashinsky.

"The Tom Perkins system is: You don't get to vote unless you pay a dollar of taxes," Perkins said.

"But what I really think is, it should be like a corporation. You pay a million dollars in taxes, you get a million votes. How's that?"

The audience at the Commonwealth Club reacted with laughter. But Perkins offered no immediate indication that he was joking."

Hasn't the idea that people who are on public assistance shouldn't be allowed to vote been put forth by a number of wingers on this site?

I seem to remember something to that effect.

Its not too far off of what the Constitution was originally intended to do.

Only select people used to be able to vote, there is some merit to it although I don't think taxes should be the qualifier.

Watching the video it seemed pretty clear he was making a lighthearted comment to tweak the interviewer.

Seeing the full exchange was more enlightening than just reading the sensationalized article.

Political activities of the Koch brothers, why waste time with votes. Just outright buy your required results, so to impose them on the 99%.
