Developer Connected To Major State Project Indicted In Cuomo Corruption Probe

These probes have resulted in indictments of once close associates of Cuomo, and are getting close to Cuomo, and to Malloy of Connecticut. Democrats all.

A key developer connected to one of Connecticut's most important transportation projects and the son of one of the state's most influential Democratic political figures were among nine people indicted Monday in a long-running federal corruption investigation in New York that has focused on senior members of the administration of Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Among those charged were Louis Ciminelli, a western New York construction executive, and Peter Galbraith Kelly Jr., a lobbyist for a company that develops power plants and son of Peter G. Kelly, a Hartford lawyer and former chief fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee. The charges are described in a lengthy criminal complaint prepared by the U.S. attorney's office in Manhattan.

Ciminelli and members of his family gave $42,500 to what has become known as the Connecticut Democratic Party's federal re-election fund. The fund, which accepted contributions prohibited under state election law, was used, ostensibly, in the 2014 election cycle to support Connecticut candidates for federal office.

The federal fund is now the subject of a federal grand jury investigation by the U.S. attorney's office in Connecticut. Among other things, according to people who have been interviewed by investigators, the grand jury probe is trying to determine whether Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's re-election effort benefited improperly from money in the federal fund.

Ciminelli also is associated with one of three major developers that make up SMDV Stamford Manhattan Development Ventures the entity chosen by the state as the preferred developer for a massive, $500 million redevelopment of the Stamford train station. SMVD's original plans for the new transportation hub called for about 600,000 square feet of commercial office space, 60,000 square feet of street-level retail space, and a hotel with 150 rooms and 150 residential units.
