Doesn't really pass the smell test.
Yes, it does Americans who are not looking for a job, for whatever reason, aren't counted. The problem now is broadly not that people don't have jobs. It's that they don't necessarily have the job they want. They have to work shit hours, they get paid less than they'd like, they don't have many benefits. The growth that needs to happen now is in wages, per capita GDP and number of voluntary quits.

The problem with real household income is the lack of jobs. If we had 6 million more jobs today to put us on parity with 2007, real household incomes would be significantly higher, instead of lower than they were in 2007.

Consumer confidence in the economy is higher than at any point in the Obama Presidency. It was much higher in January than in October before the election.

Consumer sentiment was as strong in January as its been in any month since 2004, as President Donald Trump's post-election rally continues to lighten Americans' economic outlooks and push stock indexes to all-time highs.

A new report published Friday by the University of Michigan showed consumer confidence has climbed to a more than 12-year high. The index was ultimately up 0.3 percent over the month and a whopping 7.1 percent on the year.

And the decline continued through the end of the Obama era, ending with only 1.6% growth for 2016.

Optimism about the 2014 economy is fading - Jun. 16, 2014

At the start of the year, economists were optimistic. Perhaps the economy would grow 3% this year, they said, instead of the measly 2% pace it's been stuck at for the prior three years.

So much for that hopeful thinking. Half-way through the year, forecasts are being slashed. The latest Zorro move comes from the International Monetary Fund. The organization said Monday that the U.S. economy would only grow 2% this year, down from it earlier forecast of 2.8%.

Economists were calling for an increase, looks like they continue to underestimate the power of the Trumpconomy to continue to build momentum.

In the week ending February 4, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 234,000, a decrease of 12,000 from the previous week's unrevised level of 246,000. The 4-week moving average was 244,250, a decrease of 3,750 from the previous week's unrevised average of 248,000. This is the lowest level for this average since November 3, 1973 when it was 244,000.
