I've never been in favor of military strikes in Syria. Trump may have violated international law here.

One expensive show of force just to prove a point.

It's possible he was sincerely horrified by the poison gas attack.

Maybe Assad and Putin (and I) mistook him for a man incapable of empathy.

In the western part of the country, an airfield that they're saying isn't likely to have Russian aircraft. Makes sense on the face of this.

    Sending a message.

Okay, now we'll see what the reaction is.

I wouldn't say that. Syria is at war. This is hopefully nothing more than a punitive retaliation for Assad having used chemical weapons. We don't need to become entangled in the ground war in Syria, but Assad can't be allowed to use chemical weapons without some kind of response.
    Thanks from Babylon and Pragmatist

The key player here is Russia and what their response will be.

Its nice to see Trump not cower before them like Obama was used to doing all over the world.

Fuck drawing a line in the sand, HERE'S A TOMAHAWK UP YOUR ASS!

I don't think regime change was the goal. I think this is just to keep Assad from thinking he's going to kill all his opponents with impunity. "You can stay, but there are limits to what we'll let you do."

Of course if he keeps killing people without using gas are we going to let him?

    Sticky stuff.
