President Trump phoned Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to congratulate him on winning a referendum that will grant the foreign leader broader powers, according to reports.

Turkey's state-run Anadolu Agency reported the news. Israeli newspaper Haaretz also cited presidential sources in Turkey.

News of the call comes as opposition groups in Turkey have contested the results of the referendum.
The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment.

The referendum would institute constitutional reforms, including giving Erdoğan broader powers to appoint ministers and judges. It would also reportedly eliminate the country’s office of prime minister.

    Idiot.
Well here is the thing. Turkey is part of NATO and they are our ally. If we don't trust them or feel they are a danger or a dictatorship, why the hell are they still in NATO? As long as they are a member it should be assumed that other allies call them and congratulate them or ask their advice on issues. Otherwise, kick them out. Cant have it both ways.

The Wahhabism is the prototype for the IS and other streams of the militant Islamism. Sometimes I have the feeling the USA fights against the own imperial shadow. What wins the USA now? An new "America first" flag? Or is it a: "My god. Are we idiots?" flag? For sure I can say I'm vey angry about Germany too, because we are unbelievable idiots. If you like to know why then I can tell you why. But this would need a little longer than I like to waste time with our stupidities. The situation now can grow to become very fast a very gigantic disaster.
It was getting violent of late with terrorist attacks. Despot put in place to keep order. Apparently it seems to be the only form of government Muslims have been able to live peacefully under for any amount of time. Either that or a monarchy. The US has to stop assuming Democracy works with Muslim majority countries. For the most part it doesn't.

The alternative is Turkey becomes a part of the Russian empire or of the Arabian empire or builds up a new kind of Osman empire.

As far as I heard no one in the western world congratulated the one man state leader Erdogan with the banner "My dictatorship first" for the destruction of the democracy in Turkey.

or ask their advice on issues. Otherwise, kick them out. Cant have it both ways.
Take a look at the history of the Nato and Turkey. It were not always easy situations. Politics is not as easy as you seem to think. Still Erdogan is not a tyrant. I fear soon he will be. Still Turkey introduced not the death penalty. Soon lots of people will be murdered legally. And the people who are under this pressure will not be able to say what they think - except they have no one to lose. Prove me wrong and I'm happy. Erdogan uses by the way the USA for his political propaganda. He calls his dictatorship "presidential system". His presidential system is without pluralism and parliamentarianism under leadership of a single political party, the Hitler-party, ah sorry, the Stalin-party ... damn ... now I got it ... the Erdogan clan. "AKP" = "Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi" = "Party for justice and upturn". That's why the prisons are full of innocent people and the economy became down and downer and downer and downer ... since Erdogan is president of Turkey. Same time grew unemployment. But the people voted for him. The reason? Brainwashing political propaganda and blind irreal fanaticism. Pray, boy, pray that god will help lots and lots and lots of people, which will have not a good future now without his help.

Democracy seems to be working fine in Indonesia.. which also happens to be the most populous Muslim-majority country.

Indonesia is the world's 14th-largest country in terms of land area and world's 7th-largest country in terms of combined sea and land area.It has an estimated population of over 260 million people and is the world's fourth most populous country, the most populous Austronesian nation, as well as the most populous Muslim-majority country.

The klingon ideology of i slam lauds democracy for its tyranny by majority , without respect for individual liberty .

Indonesians are not lineal descendants of ishmael within hejaz and the stupidity of sharia does not apply to them .

I voted against hillary because she pandered to the fictional ishmaelism psychopathy , and this buffoon in chief will get the same treatment for sucking off the saudis payroll and for supporting the mussel men brother hood clown despot ear dog again .

Thank-you I know that. I said it doesn't work for the most part. That means it has exceptions and Indonesia is the exception. However there are parts of the country that are turning more and more toward having religious rule there too.

In the western world structurally happens the same under a different sign. Here the belief "atheism" gives more and more the standards for all states, while all other forms of spiritual believes are under the rule of separation of state and religion (by the way: A Christian rule). The state religion in Europe and America is a growing Atheism, although the most people in Europe and America are not Atheists. I would say the Atheists see themselves as an educated and intelligent elite of a high civilization, while all others are badly inculturated and uneducated idiots in their eyes. A prejudice of me? But fortunately they don't have prejudices and are wonderful tolerant people as long as no one is a man or a woman and has any of the other some thousand million genders.

@Tedminator: Thanks by the way - I forgot Indonesia, because it's far from the sphere of my own life. Not good. Everything has always to do with everything else in global times.

Erdogan is turning himself into a dictator, no better than Putin. How long will he be allowed to remain in NATO???
If the people of Turkey prefer a stronger executive I don't see why that should disqualify them from NATO. So long as he is still accountable to the people and has to face an election to remain in power he's not a dictator.
