Theresa May calls for snap election June 8

    Interesting.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May has announced plans to call a snap general election on 8 June. She said Britain needed certainty, stability and strong leadership following the EU referendum.

Explaining the decision, Mrs May said: "The country is coming together but Westminster is not." Opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn said his Labour Party wanted the election, calling it a chance to get a government that puts "the majority first". There will be a vote in the House of Commons on Wednesday to approve the election plan - the prime minister needs two thirds of MPs to vote in favour to hold a vote before the next scheduled election date of 2020.

Explaining her change of heart on an early election, Mrs May said: "I have concluded the only way to guarantee certainty and security for years ahead is to hold this election."

I suspect that she wants out. Can't really blame her. I wouldn't want to be remembered for leading the UK through it's 21st century flirt with fascism.

Is this functionally a do-over for those opposed to Brexit?

Weren't you the one who told Leo you wished there was a UK forum so you could say a few things about May?

I think I actually predicted this on here. After the Brexit vote.

May will have to call a general election to be legitimate, and someone will campaign on staying in Europe. What if they win big on that platform, with that clear mandate?

    What then?
    Thanks from Dangermouse and Amelia

A general election on June 8th?
You mean they don't need two years so the media can manipulate it and milk it for all they can like here?
    Thanks from Dangermouse
