Also, I think Sanders is in a bit of a tight spot. If he just hangs up his hat and goes away, a lot of the 40% of people who voted for him in the primaries will go away too. They'll just feel (not unreasonably) that the party finally got rid of him. A lot of his supporters will remain as democrats, but considering how close so many elections are, I don't think the democrats can afford to get rid of Sanders. They might want to but it would be a pretty awful mistake, in my opinion—so very likely it is something they are working hard to do.
aren't you leaving out a very important detail here? Sanders didn't just say he didn't know if Ossoff was a progressive. He said that "if you run as a Democrat you're a Democrat.". This despite the fact that he ran as a Democrat even though he clearly isn't. The sheer hypocrisy of his statement is what's so alarming. In fact , in the past he even said if he ever ran as a Dem that would make him a hypocrite. Now, I'll buy into the possibility that he's actually trying to help Ossoff with his comments. But, the clear implication here is he's questioning whether he's a true progressive.

Exactly how "progressive" can you even expect him to be?

I know in the world where people don't want politicians to give honest answers, it's worth a shitifit the second someone doesn't march in lockstep and sing the praises of people they don't know anything about just because that's the party line, but give me a break. People keep saying what a washed up has been Sanders is, but they jump on here to the second he makes some innocuous comment. Pick a side. Either you don't care what he thinks, or you think we need to hear about it every time he answers a question. Which is it?
Don't stick up for him on this. It was a serious misjudgment at best.

He is speaking because the DNC is allowing him too. He and Perez are linked at the hip it seems. Don't get it, didn't he just say he isn't a democrat and refuses to be one?

Georgia Republicans think PROGRESSIVE is a dirty word.
He did no favors. Just saying he doesn't know is bad enough.

He is very inconsistent and in the end perhaps it is better to just send him out alone to his few supporting states. This one is a groaner.

things got a little heated during the election between Perez and Ellison factions. Which is putting it mildly. Perez is just trying to unify the party. But Sanders is just playing him for a fool. JMO.

can't believe he actually said this. So, the guy that ran as Democrat for president, after saying that he'd be a hypocrite if he ever ran as a Democrat. Then, changed his party back to Independent after the election. Is now saying "if you run as a Democrat you're a Democrat"? This is the kind of crap that pisses people off about Sanders. Here the Dems are with a fighting chance to flips a district from red to blue. It's going to be close and many people feel that Ossof doesn't have a chance. So Sanders decides on the first day that the run off election campaign begins to run his big fking mouth and potentially deny Ossof progressive support. I can't wait for him to do a town hall somewhere close to where I live so I can give him a piece of my mind.
You hate Sanders. We got it. It's been obvious for some time.

I like him because he tells it like it is. He doesn't mince words. What you hear is what you get.

Amazing the lefty youth idolize an old white man who's a closet commie. Now that's tolerance. The irony is sweet.

blah..blah...blah. He has a a big mouth and this time he put his foot in it. Please don't tell me who I hate. I'd like the Dems to pick up some seats and he's not helping. It's as simple as that. Let him go run his mouth in his own election.
