Chaffetz to not finish term? Utah prepares special election

    Ok this is really strange..

U.S. Representative Jason Chaffetz, the Republican chairman of a House committee with broad investigative powers, said on Thursday that it is possible he could leave office before his term finishes next year, The Wall Street Journal reported.

"My future plans are not yet finalized, but I haven't ruled out the possibility of leaving early," Chaffetz told the Journal a day after the Utah congressman announced he would not run for re-election in 2018.

Utah state officials have begun making plans for a special election to replace Chaffetz in his heavily Republican district, the newspaper reported, citing Lieutenant Governor Spencer Cox.

Not as much as you might think. It'll be easier to retain a seat held by someone who has been in office for a year or so next November, than it will be to defend an open seat. It's also a little awkward to have the oversight committee chaired by a lame duck who can't be held accountable for his actions.

I suppose but its Utah. Most people think Evan McMullin will take over this seat. He shouldn't have a hard time at all holding it if he wants it. Chaffetz's abrupt departure seems rushed and decided this week.

Chaffetz has a habit of making rash decisions either to go after hardened targets or cover his own ass in rather public, embarrassing ways. It's not surprising to me that he's approached the end of his congressional career with the same calculus. And maybe, he's seen something behind closed doors about the way things are going which makes him so disgusted that he wants to run for the exit.

Certainly a bizarre announcement at this point. Politicians typically leave early when something urgent is happening in their life (like health matters). Or if some distraction is preventing them from doing their job.

Anxiously awaiting the details on this fella....

Here's your detail: Jason Chaffetz and careful decision-making are the polar ends of the same magnet.

Ok guys my money is on the fact that SHIT IS ABOUT TO HIT THE FAN with respect to the Trump investigation into Russia or maybe something about Nunes and the Trump campaign and Chaffetz is leaving what could be a very ugly Congressional event.

It is the Hillary Curse. Everyone that colluded to sabotage and derail Hillary Clinton's candidacy will meet with a horrible and painful political death.
