Interesting. There were other factors in my father's dementia (alcoholism, heavy smoking -- and perhaps the biggest, he'd long ceased supplementing the Crohn's surgery related B-Complex vitamin deficiency with injections...B-Complex vitamins are vital to brain health), but about 15 years before he died he switched from regular Coke in his bourbon to Diet Coke because he said his dentist told him the sugar content in regular Coke was creating his dental issues.

While the findings do not prove that diet drinks damage brains, they support other studies that show people who drink them frequently tend to have poorer health.

"We found that those people who were consuming diet soda on a daily basis were three times as likely to develop both stroke and dementia within the next 10 years as compared to those who did not consume diet soda," Pase told NBC News. "Our study provides further evidence to link consumption of artificially sweetened beverages with the risk of stroke," the team wrote. "To our knowledge, our study is the first to report an association between daily intake of artificially sweetened soft drink and an increased risk of both all-cause dementia and dementia because of Alzheimer's disease."

Seemed to be a number of mixed messages in that article.

I find studies are misused by the media. NEVER trust the media's interpretation of a study...never.

Testing on Aspartame is not limited to the FDA and has been shown to be safe if ingested as recommended. The Food Standards testing by Australia and New Zealand have demonstrated it is relatively harmless in sold quantities. The links described in the OP are probably because diet soda drinkers have pre-existing conditions.

To the mods, is there a reason I can't c&p and post links? This is frustrating as I have a wealth of material on this subject.

Do you see the the little globe icon next to the letter icon at the top of the reply box? If you click that and paste your link it should work.

Thank you, however, that feature is disabled in my reply box and isn't highlighted like the others.

Most foods these days are full of synthetic chemicals. Unless you grow the produce yourself, free of fertilizers and pesticides, you likely are eating chemicals. GMO's is another story.
