Nobody's views are called "discrimination," and that is what I said.

American law plays favorites and there is no religious discrimination when it comes to Gay rights colliding with each other
And I agree with the court ruling. I'm basing my opinion on U.S. law of course; I'm not really familiar with U.K. law. But this wasn't an employer; it was a university. And it's not clear that he violated any policy.

You mentioned that in the U.S., "another student was dropped from the program because of their Christian beliefs." Do you have a link? A name, perhaps?

The student won the case for religious discrimination. That's good news. And you were saying?

A "religion" does no such thing. Individual people do. You appear incapable - whether speaking of your religion or Islam (at the very least) - of differentiating people as individuals, but instead insist on identifying them as a label (and your own interpretation of that label).

Will this Christian student do that to future GLBT clients, if hired as a social worker? Almost certainly.

The profession of social work requires that the professionals substitute agency protocols for their private judgments. Anyone who cannot do so cannot fulfill the duties of this job.
Then we both agree there may be a problem with a Gay social worker council with Christians?

"Their religion" does no such thing. For someone who complains ceaselessly about Christians suffering discrimination, you should take care not to promote it as to any faith.

To answer your question, again, it depends on whether the Muslim applicant can apply the agency's protocols, rather than his private beliefs, when carrying out his duties.

Clients at a social worker agency typically don't get to "reject" a social worker on such grounds. My wife used to work for a social agency that catered primarily to the Jewish community. One of the more competent social workers was a Muslim woman. Once in a rare while, a client would raise an objection, and they had to be reminded that they don't have the luxury of "rejecting" an assigned caseworker on such grounds.

The vast majority of the time, her religion was a non-issue - or the clients viewed it with muted fascination. But ultimately, she was a social worker - and she did as good a job (or more often, better) as any of her colleagues.
    Thanks from Ian Jeffrey
