Times Square car incident: 1 dead, 23 injured; driver in custody

Obviously the light sentences that the individual received on his first two DUI's really paid off...

Times Square car incident: 1 dead, 23 injured; driver in custody

An 18-year-old woman was killed and at least 23 people injured Thursday when a speeding car plowed into pedestrians in Manhattan's bustling Times Square, city officials said.

The driver of the 2009 Honda Accord is in custody, New York Police Commissioner James O'Neill said. The motorist, 26-year-old Richard Rojas of the Bronx, has been arrested twice in the past for drunken driving, he said.
The incident, which unfolded just before noon, is being investigated as an accident, a police official said. There is no indication it was an act of terrorism, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and other city leaders said.

    The first thought is terrorism.

Over 40 attacks in recent years with radical Muslim terrorists using a vehicle to attack and kill infidels.

Thankfully, this does not seem to be the case in this incident.

No, just a drunk that was given two prior chances and now someone is dead as a result.

No opiates involved - check. Not a middle eastern terrorist - check. Probably not an illegal immigrant (he was a Navy veteran) so......no big deal, nothing to see here folks, just one of the many, many rare instances of someone not being able to drink "responsibly". Remember, alcohol is the good drug!

This is what we get for giving so many chances. This was his third DUI incident. He didn't learn the lesson from the first to slaps on the wrist.

Should we give the "poor sob" another chance?

32 year old son of the owners of our little community's little country store was recently sentenced to nine years in state prison for the DUI homicide of his best friend. Poor guy was paralyzed from the neck down and ultimately died from related complications about six months after the crash. Driver was POINT THREE ONE. almost four times the legal limit.

My 35 year old former electrician is about 5 years dead now from DUI crashing his Harley into a tree. He was point two seven. He joined his brother in death...who DUI homicided an innocent mother and her 11 year old daughter, then ate a shotgun shell out of remorse.

    on and on and on....

    and on.

As a former drunk and drug addict who rarely shied away from driving impaired, I fucking cringe....have no idea how I managed to avoid visiting the carnage and horror on some innocent family... or myself and my family.

be careful out there, kiddies. please.

To be fair, they've haven't released his blood test results. He was probably drunk, but we don't know that for certain.
