No, the UN Human Rights declaration is not based on the 1st amendment. Most western nations criminalize "hate speech" and that, our 1st amendment would never permit.

There is freedom of speech in the UNHRD, obviously. Just not one which has its precise limits set by our SCOTUS decisions.

    Bullshit.

Not if the material was classified for a completely illegal reason.

Do you have any sources on Taliban actually using such info to target any such intelligence assets?

First of all, declaring Assange a "Putin flunky" is wishful thinking, not fact. Worst case, Assange is an overzealous utopian. Second of all, there's a reason why the term "whistleblower" is used much more frequently than "traitor." Or do you consider Daniel Ellsberg a traitor, too?

For millenia, world leaders have been accustomed to do as they please. To freely ignore the very standards, they expect everyone else to adhere to. That is how they even achieve those positions of power in the first place, by not giving a fuck about the principles. Steal, when they feel like it. Murder, when they feel like it. Rape, when they feel like it. If and when they can get away with it. And the higher thrones they reach, the more they can get away with it.

Suddenly, technological advance in mass communication starts to deny them that false privilege. And what does All The King's Men do in response? Do they adapt to let go of these false privileges of power, that destroys everything and builds nothing? "Fuck, no! Slaughter that little prick! I ain't to be held accountable for my own actions, 'cause I'm fuckin' Massa up on high! I'm gonna cut this little cúnt's dick off and call it a sex change!"

Fair enough. But considering that these attempts at global standards came straight out of a World War II seeing industrialized genocide, can you blame many countries denying their people the right to hate speech? Say, for a country like Germany?

No, not at all. It could well be the U.S. would be better off with European-type freedom of speech, just as we would be with European-type universal health care.

Old habits die hard, I'd reckon. The US still have her issues with her very own mistreated ethnicity, despite the civil rights attempts at reform. I'm starting to think, that this change only came to Europe because it lived through an absolute Armageddon. The US only cut the shackles off her blacks after her own Ragnarok, the civil war. Do we really require total war for true change to occur in humanity?
    Thanks from Madeline

Great question. I dunno; seems to me, seismic changes have occurred in the US during my lifetime without war on our soil. But possibly not at a real life level.

I doubt many American black families think they are better off today than they were in 1960.

I honestly don't know how European Jews feel at the moment.

There were hundreds of thousands of pages of data. Manning couldn't have possibly it known what he was giving away except that it was classified.
In a sane country Manning would rot in prison. But since she checks the transgender box, she get a get out of jail free card by a president who apparently couldn't care less.
