They should love him enough to do what is right for him instead of themselves. I still don't forgive myself for a cat suffering....I guess for probably two weeks? while I couldn't find the courage to man-up. That is a CAT. And TWO WEEKS. God help me if I caused a child to suffer for longer.

Love, yes. Compassion? I'm not so sure. I think they are doing it for themselves, not for the child.

Judging by responses, I presume some want a government that would take such decisions out of a family's hands, even a family who has the resources and desire to try last-ditch experimental procedures on another continent. Forcing me to wonder where they might draw the line. coma patients come to mind. pull the feeding tube?

It must be nice sitting in such a lofty self-righteous position like where you reside.

The parents are doing what they are doing out of 100% love for their child. The doctors and judges are doing what they are doing out of 100% compassion for the child. It just so happens, at times, that two or more different parties can be doing exactly what they think is the right thing to do and still come down on opposite sides of an issue.
    Thanks from RNG

Right. I'm kind of .......... IDK what to call it but a FB friend insisted on keeping a baby born prematurely alive when it should not have been kept alive. In his case, he is never going to walk or feed himself or anything, so even if it is ok to live like that with them caring for him what happens when they die? It's selfish. In fact they can't even take care of him now, even though she is a stay at home Mom, she needs HER Mom to help.

So we taxpayers are spending multi, multi millions so that she can be selfish and have this baby who will always be a baby. It's crazy. And I mean selfish towards HIM. He will be in a terrible institution someday. The millions upon millions to inflict this cruelty is secondary.
    Thanks from RNG and pragmatic

Our government tried to stop a husband from doing that to Terri Schaivo.

Spare us the drama! This child has no future, and no chance of improvement. He and his parents and the hospital (A children's hospital of world renown) have come to the end of a long process of ethical and legal steps to establish what is the approriate treatment in his particular case. Artificially prolonging his existence will not benefit him.
The family doesn't have the resources, they crowd-funded the money, but there's no intervention, however experimental, that can remedy ongoing structural brain damage.
    Thanks from Havelock and Friday13

How is he in pain if he's "unresponsive to stimuli"?
