Poll: Most Republicans say colleges have negative impact on US

A majority of Republicans in a new survey think colleges and universities have a negative effect on the U.S.
The Pew Research Center poll finds 58 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents think colleges and universities hurt the country.
Just 36 percent of Republicans think they have a positive effect.

Seriously? Well, that explains a lot. Including right here at PH.

Yes, distrust of intellectuals is deeply ingrained in the American psyche. Which is why Americans believe a risk-taking womanizer like Kirk, not Spock, should be at the helm of the ship of state.

Because someone educated doesn't fall for snake oil salesmen. Hence Trump being elected by the rural "middle" america.

I know this article is 10 years old, but I think it still rings true.

Colleges have been increasingly competing to offer "family friendly" policies -- in the hopes of attracting the best academic talent from a pool of Ph.D.'s that includes both more women than ever before as well as many men who take parenting responsibilities seriously. A new study suggests that such policies may be important for another group that believes its needs aren't fully addressed in academe: conservatives.

The study -- "Left Pipeline: Why Conservatives Don't Get Doctorates" -- argues that the much debated minority status for conservatives in higher education may be the result of differing priorities of graduating college seniors of different political persuasions. The study presents evidence that conservatives are significantly more likely than liberals -- at the point when college students decide whether to apply to graduate school -- to value raising a family and having money. In contrast, liberals at that point in their lives are significantly more likely to value writing original works.

The authors of the study do not dispute that conservatives are a distinct minority in academe and that the imbalance is problematic. They also hold open the possibility -- much proclaimed by other authors at the conference of the American Enterprise Institute where all of the work was presented -- that there may be bias against conservatives (although they question whether this has been proven). But the authors of the work on the pipeline say there is considerable evidence that could show conservative self-selection out of academic careers.

So people want to basically bitch about colleges that do not even have "conservatives" apply for teaching positions?

    Ok then...

Self-Identifying Marxist Professors Outnumber Conservatives as College Professors

    June 15, 2016, Spencer Irvine, 2 Comments

At a recent American Enterprise Institute (AEI) event, panel speakers outlined how self-identifying Marxists outnumber conservatives on college campuses:
An AEI panel discussion last Wednesday, titled “The Close-Minded Campus? The Stifling of Ideas in American Universities,” focused on the scarcity of conservative professors and students in the social sciences, with the panelists noting that conservatives are outnumbered in the field even by self-proclaimed Marxists.
About 18 percent of social scientists in the United States self-identify as Marxists, compared to only about 5 percent who identify as conservatives, Dunn and Shields reported.
Why would a conservative be interested in social sciences, with the exception of economics?

A conservative might be interested in political science as a precursor to law school, and/or to justify preconceived biases and prejudices.

I think the trouble started when conservatives got wind of "gender studies." Seriously, that comes up in almost every argument against high education. They ignore all the other arcane curricula and really home in on that one.

He won because everything the democrats knew was wrong. That's on the democrats. Carrying the water for them won't help, davo. Progressive ideology has been a failure and harmful and people know it. We don't want to be the commie-progs social experiment any more. Done. Trump will be re-elected in 2020. It's going to be a long 8 years for you, well, if you're around that long, never know. /shrug

He's not going anywhere but a cruise to re-election. You all are so desperate to be rid of him. The democrats only want to make America last. We said NO. I love all this winning.
