As an amateur researcher, I'm enjoying how the tone of this thread suggests the OP may have merit. Needs more study, though!

    Think about it:

    1) Most Americans have a positive opinion of higher education.
    2) The study says most Republicans think higher education is "bad" for the country.
    3) The study says most Democrats have a positive opinion of higher education.
    4) There are more Democrats than Republicans in America.
    5) A Republican administration hostile to the American academy and public primary and secondary education won the election.

That's an odd set of data! We need to study this more!

Recently released numbers out of the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center suggests that college-enrollment rates have actually decreased—and for the fourth straight year, all despite massive increases in federal aid for students who can’t afford tuition. The number of students enrolling in colleges and universities this year is 1.7 percent lower than it was last year. People are drawn back toward the workforce once the economy has started to recover, which is what experts suspect is happening now."

An informed electorate is a dangerous thing for people that want to manipulate the masses. Therefore Republicans don't like college educated people. They love the uneducated.

Don't these people qualify as college educated? The question didn't have a qualifier. A majority of Republicans in a new survey think colleges and universities have a negative effect on the U.S. Without college we wouldn't have people qualified to be doctors and engineers so I guess Republicans want to live in a 3rd world. Their wish maybe coming true on that. They gave us Trump and he is doing his damn best to make the USA a 3rd world country.

Education is a wonderful thing if not misused.
