So...I actually looked at the links from the Breitbart article, and this sentence is inaccurate. The link shows an article on the HRC website that notes 700 "faculty, staff, students, and alumni" are calling on JH to make a statement that this scholar's work is his own and does not represent the opinion of the university--which is actually implied for all research, but sometimes it's better to make the statement outright. HRC makes no threat.

I see no reason to question this research, myself. I looked at the article's conclusions and it says that the current level of research doesn't hold to strict scientific standards, though it notes that there appear to be some biological predispositions, though they are not well understood.

In a remarkable case of agenda politics eclipsing science, America’s largest LGBT group has threatened harm to Johns Hopkins University if it doesn’t censor the scientific findings of leading scholars on the origins of homosexuality and transgenderism.

In a recent major study titled “Sexuality and Gender: Findings from the Biological, Psychological, and Social Sciences,” researchers from Johns Hopkins found that there is virtually no scientific evidence that people are born gay or transgender.
In response, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the most powerful lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer advocacy group in the country, labelled the report an “attack on LGBT communities” and threatened to penalize Johns Hopkins University if it does not distance itself from the study.
HRC Foundation’s Healthcare Equality Index has begun rating hospitals with a numerical score this year and will evaluate whether hospitals’ practices reflect “responsible citizenship” (read: LGBT-friendly). If Hopkins’ leadership refuses to censor the study, “its Healthcare Equality Index score will be reduced substantially,” the LGBTQ group stated.
The scholars conducting the study bear the highest credentials in the field. Dr. Paul R. McHugh is arguably the most important American psychiatrist of the last half-century, and served as director of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at Johns Hopkins University for 27 years. Importantly, during McHugh’s tenure, the institute pioneered work with transgender individuals.

In their 116-page report, the scholars analyzed research from the biological, psychological, and social sciences, and concluded that many of the most frequently heard claims about sexuality and gender are not supported by scientific evidence.
“Some of the most widely held views about sexual orientation, such as the ‘born that way’ hypothesis, simply are not supported by science. The literature in this area does describe a small ensemble of biological differences between non-heterosexuals and heterosexuals, but those biological differences are not sufficient to predict sexual orientation, the ultimate test of any scientific finding,” the report said.
Ever faithful to its agenda, the Human Rights Campaign wants to bully Johns Hopkins into stifling free scientific inquiry when the results run contrary to its deeply held beliefs and desires. It is willing to punish a world-class institution for protecting academic freedom.
Fortunately, officials at Johns Hopkins seem to have enough integrity to reject these heavy-handed attempts, at least for now.

More bullying by Gay rights activist against science. If Gays are for equality, why are they against scientific research? I would like to hear from the Liberal science people why Gays would be against science, could it be they are afraid of the truth? Of course we know its a choice , because there is no science to support their claims. Those that tell us global warming has scientific proof will tell us Gays don't need to be proved by science. If they don't need proof, then why should we be sued for discrimination if what they are is not really true.

There is no evidence people are born heterosexual either. So I don't see the point of this study. It's stupid.

Besides, sexual attractions develop as a person matures anyway. So how would even go about proving something like that at birth? That would be like saying there is no evidence so and so liked the color orange at birth - therefore he doesn't naturally like the color orange, he just chooses to like it.

    It's an asinine argument.

Homosexuals no more choose to be gay than you choose to be straight. It defies logic to think that anyone would willingly choose to be something that would bring them so much grief - and even death in certain countries.

This article shows the hate come from the gay activist groups. But of course you democrats could never admit that about your special interest groups

It doesn't say "they are not well understood".

It says the biological differences are not sufficient to predict sexual orientation.

    You are exactly correct.

That is what is the most important point of this article.

Scientific proof of being gay or not ..... what we do know is they are suffering from mental issues.

    First of all .......

Why would anyone think there would or wouldn't be scientific proof to sexual orientation?

    Regardless of the orientation.

That expectation is lunacy in itself.

If you had read your own source materials you would have learned that this is not a study of any kind...not even the fake kind.

AND ...Johns Hopkins has no association to this paper other that the signator once taught at JH and left in 1992.

This paper is being released by a medical statistician at the New Atlantis. Neither Meyers or Mc Hugh are practicing psychiatrists or teach psychiatry at Johns Hopkins...[or anywhere else]. Dr. Mc Hugh sits on Catholic boards.

The LBGT community is calling on Johns Hopkins to make clear their disassociation from these crackpots.

Who is making that claim or where was it stated that is the reason for this "New Atlantis" paper?
