I think Whoppi wants us to keep art as authentic as the artist intended. Warts and all.

We should not censor The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn because of raw language. This is who we are as a nation and no amount of sanitizing will change that.

I'll be damned if this rings any bells for me. None.

I agree with her on why Song of the South should be brought back. it is history. Is it offensive? Yes. But it helps tell the story of this nation. A story that shouldn't be covered up and ignored.

I also agree with Disney for not putting it out. Because it doesn't ONLY tell the story of the nation. It also would reflect negatively on the company and they have a driving interest in not having their name tied to that conversation.

    Competing interests.

But unfortunately we do. That book is actually barred from public schools.

WE should confront our history and take note of how far we've come. Trying to run from it or cover it up is definitely not the way to go.

There are lessons in history but I see no reason to bring back the shame. There are generations of children who don't need to have their brains as messed up as past generation. That is not a movie for adults so adult rational doesn't work. Let racist history stay in the grave of history. No need to dig it up. Consider the audience and the age.

People say it is racist. Actually the Song of the South is a abolishishionist story.

Uncle Remus is a Hero, a man of integrity (a slave) that befriends a white boy helps raise him, teaches him right from wrong through a series of stories about a rabbit. In the (It has been a while since I read the book or saw the movie) saves the boys life (I am not sure if he died doing so or not).

It was one of the first books to show slaves as People not property... as individuals not livestock.

one problem with your thinking, if you forget the errors of history you are doomed to repeat them.

I NEVER EVER EVER want slavery to be forgotten or the Horrors of it.
