I guess you prefer the Obama approach where he ignores it and goes golfing.

Except for the sanctions against Venezuela President Obama singed into law and enforced. The blatantly incorrect information in your post is highly suspect. For a claim of a PhD in international relations, I would have thought something as large as this would have caught your eye.

Seems clear to me that you attacked Obama for not dealing with Venezuela, when he clearly did. Di you intend to be wrong when you entered the thread?

Just the threat of military action may be enough to help these poor folks.

This seems to be Trumps main strategy which I think is a good one.

Maybe if his predecessors had taken this approach we wouldn't have all these problems today

Frankly... Yes. Other countries have own responsibilities. US should not be involved in everything and handle everything for everyone.

South Africa, for example, has a strong military, probably the strongest, best trained, armed, and equipped in all of Africa (aside from, maybe, Egypt)

They should contribute more to peacekeeping and security on their continent.

And they have done things, in CAR, though they withdrew after some of their soldiers were killed there, a decision that was popular at home, but received some criticism later: South Africa in the CAR: Was pulling the troops a catastrophic mistake?

But, they also deployed men to the Congo, for instance: South Africa army 'not scared' of DR Congo conflict - BBC News

    They can do more though.

Point is, US shouldn't be responsible for everything. Why should US military handle Venezuela, if, God forbid, it comes to that?

What about neighbouring Colombia, which has pretty decent US-trained armed forces which proved themselves against FARC?

Venezuelan forces are not so weak. They get modern Russian equipment

Their Marines and other elite forces train with and by Russians

They are pretty tough. But the Colombians could take them, in my opinion.

And what about Brazil? Argentina? South American issues should be sorted out BY South Americans IMHO

That wasn't in the post you quoted.

And I blame not only Obama but Bush, Clinton, Reagan.....going back to FDR for the current problems.

Though not so much Reagan, he at least tried.
