    White Nationalists March on UVA

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — A month after a Ku Klux Klan rally here ended with the police using tear gas on protesters, Charlottesville is bracing for a weekend of white nationalist demonstrations and counterprotests, and suddenly this tranquil college town feels like a city under siege.

Thousands of people — many from out of town — are expected to descend on the city to either protest or participate in a “Unite the Right” rally on Saturday convened by white nationalists who oppose a plan to remove a statue of Robert E. Lee, the Confederate general, from a city park. “People are angry, they’re scared, they’re hurt, they’re confused,” said the Rev. Seth Wispelwey of the local United Church of Christ. “White supremacists rallying in our town is an act of violence.”

Late Friday night, several hundred torch-bearing men and women marched on the main quadrangle of the University of Virginia’s grounds, shouting, “You will not replace us,” and “Jew will not replace us.” They walked around the Rotunda, the university’s signature building, and to a statue of Thomas Jefferson, where a group of counterprotesters were gathered, and a brawl ensued. At least one person was led away in handcuffs by the police.

Hundreds of far-right demonstrators wielded torches as they marched on to the University of Virginia campus in Charlottesville on Friday night and reportedly attacked a much smaller group of counter-protesters who had linked arms around a statue of Thomas Jefferson. Starting at a municipal park less than a mile away, “alt-right” protesters who have gathered for the weekend Unite the Right rally marched in a long column over the short distance to the campus, chanting slogans like “You will not replace us” and “Blood and soil”.

When the marchers reached and surrounded the counter-protesters there was a short verbal confrontation. Counter-protesters said they were then attacked with swung torches, pepper spray and lighter fluid.

Emily Gorcenski was among the protesters who said they were hit with the mace spray. “[They] completely surrounded us and wouldn’t let us out.” She said police did not intervene until long after the rightwing marchers had struck out at protesters. “I saw hundreds of people chanting Nazi slogans and police do nothing.”

On Saturday the small college city will face down a full scale Unite the Right rally, which is predicted to be the country’s largest in a decade.

As for Trump, no matter what he says you guys will find a fault with it.

If he speaks out you will say its a distraction from the Russia thing, if he doesn't you will criticize him for not speaking out.

As for the protests well its a free nation.

As for why people have so much hate there are many reasons

Some are bitter, some blame, some are raised that way.

Just think of it as a white lives matters rally, its the same thing, just a different color.

I read about how this city has become a hot bed of hate. Used to be a peaceful, loving city. Sickening.

And some are so full of hate they are not sure what they hate. But it could be they just hate themselves for being so impotenr.

I just noticed many of them are young people. They will feel like damn fools when they become more mature, except the fools that will fail in life because they had no inner resources,or even some one to encourage them to excel.

How many of us can thank a Teacher,Professor, adult in our family for pushing us?

I hope every one reads JD Vance," Hillbilly Elogy." I know I keep pushing, but it is very revealing as to how some one out of a hugely disfunctional family is pushed to succeed.

We see it in Obama, with his Grandmother. Clinton, his Mother and Grandparents.

Looks like these people object to the removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee. Any thoughts on that?

Personally, I think WN's showing up to rally around the statue kind of makes the point for people who want it removed.

I am really not concerned over a few statues, but do understand how many feel. The minority who use them to continue a war that has long been over are the problem.

I do object to flying the Confederate flag because they lost. The Stars and Stripes won.

I have a feeling Germans would object to a Swastika. And those people giving the Nazi salute and like Ford and his," Seig Heil." are too much. Too many died in both wars for it to be funny.
