CHARLOTTESVILLE — One person was killed and 19 injured Saturday when a car crashed into a crowd of peaceful protesters leaving a "Unite the Right" rally that officials had declared an "unlawful assembly."

The planned rally had already been shut down following bottle-throwing clashes between alt-right demonstrators, counter-protesters, white nationalists, neo-Nazis and supporters of Black Lives Matter.

“I am heartbroken that a life has been lost here,” Charlottesville Mayor Mike Singer said, without elaborating.

A couple of hours later, a car plowed into a crowd of counterprotesters, and a hospital official said at least 19 people were injured. .Brennan Gilmore, a 38-year-old Charlottesville resident who came Saturday to oppose the white nationalists, was filming his friends demonstrating three blocks away from the park when he noticed a gray car drive past.

Mr. Gilmore turned his camera in time to see the car slow as it approached the counterprotesters and then suddenly speed up, ramming into the car in front of it and the crowd itself.

“Bodies went flying — up onto the hood of the car and into the air,” Mr. Gilmore said. “It was horrifying.”

Mr. Gilmore continued filming as the gray car backed up quickly to escape the scene. After the car left, Mr. Gilmore ran over to help provide first aid to some of the injured.

Just heartbreaking....and still Trump has not denounced the white nationalist/nazi's.

Well that might be a clue as to who may have been driving the car.

Realistically, you cannot expect the man to denounce his base. Those are some of his most loyal supporters.

I would classify this post as semi-sarcasm.

    Violence creates more violence.

Just because one group gets the worse of the violence does not excuse ANY of the violence.

Weren't you one of the people whining about violence when a Berkeley protestor failed to light an unpermitted counter-protester's hair on fire?

There was more outrage from Paul Ryan than Trump. Paul actually came close to the "racist" word:

"U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., tweeted out his condemnation of the rally. "The views fueling the spectacle in Charlottesville are repugnant," he said. "Let it only serve to unite Americans against this kind of vile bigotry."

Oh wow, you are one the biggest instigators here when it comes to things like the sad shooting of Steve Scalise - and now your concerned about violence?

    Spare me your hypocrisy.
