    Angry Christians firebomb movie studio

A studio belonging to a director whose upcoming film about a Tsar's love affair has drawn sharp criticism from Orthodox activists was attacked last night in St. Petersburg.

A fire broke out at filmmaker Alexei Uchitel's studio at around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday morning after unknown assailants threw Molotov cocktails at the building, a spokesperson for the local branch of the Interior Ministry was cited as saying by the state-run RIA news agency Thursday.

Investigators are looking into whether the attack on the Rock Films studio was linked to a private screening of Uchitel's “Mathilde,” a film detailing the love affair between Tsar Nicholas II and ballet dancer Mathilde Kschessinska, the local Fontanka.ru outlet reported. “Mathilde” is due for release in late October.

Duma Deputy Natalia Poklonskaya and Orthodox activists have described the film as offensive to believers.

In February, a vigilante group called "Christian State — Holy Russia" sent a letter to dozens of cinema managers, saying “cinemas would burn, maybe people will even suffer” if the film was shown.

In comments to the BBC’s Russian service on Thursday, Uchitel said authorities had ignored repeated calls to take action in response to the intimidation.

“This looks like the result of those earlier threats,” he said. “Today is both Mathilde Kschessinska’s birthday, and mine. I think these are not simple coincidences.”

Tsar Nikolai/Nicholas and Mathilde Kschessinska, in a scene from the film

Natalia Poklonskaya made a hell of a name for herself as the beautiful yet tough as nails head prosecutor in Crimea following the Russian takeover

Ironically, she had overseen some prominent trials of pro-Russian separatist activists under Ukrainian rule (something she does what she can now to purge from media and public memory lol); but since 2014 has been accused by Kiev of leading the repressive purges of pro-Ukraine people and groups from Crimean society.

Later, she became a member of the Duma, Russian parliament, and Russians also learned of her strange attachment to Nikolai and the last Royal Family, to the point that she keeps icons of them (they are all Canonized by the Orthodox Church as Holy Martyrs of the Bolsheviks) in her office

She seems to worship the Romanovs

Defends them and their from any perceived attack.

Hangs out with modern Romanovs too

Older lady in blue dress is Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna, the head of the Imperial House of Romanov today.

It has fueled wild conspiracy theories, including that she is, in fact, a descendant of the Lost Princess, Anastasia. Does look like her, a bit lol

Now, she leads the charge against "Mathilde" too, calling it an insult to the memory of the Royal Family, and a blasphemous offense to all Orthodox believers.

The film is already being banned in some regions, such as her own Crimea; as well as Chechnya and Dagestan in North Caucasus.

In Moscow, the Orthodox militant group "Forty Forties" (referring to forty holy cathedrals in the city), who are considered the Church's own storm-troopers there, with 10,000 members in the capital alone

have vowed to picket theaters and, if necessary, physically block people from coming in to see the offensive movie.

Naturally, the leadership of the Forties are also close with Poklonskaya these days

Frankly, even some other Duma members, mainly other women too, like the former Olympic champion figure skater Irina Rodnina, are speaking out against Poklonskaya over this. I believe it was Rodnina who said Poklonskaya has mental issues and is using her Duma office and her popular public persona to promote her extremist views into society and create "mayhem"... I believe a number of members, mainly Communists, as well as a few of her own comrades from Putin's United Russia, have actually signed a request to the party leaders and to the Speaker and other top figures of the Duma, to restrain Poklonskaya somehow, stop her from causing all this nonsense. But, nobody has the balls to directly confront her... I heard Putin himself likes her or something lol

But, it's not just Orthodox extremists and Poklonskaya fans, who have a problem with this movie.

Among my own friends back in Russia, some just don't like the casting.

Okay, it is fair that the Polish actress Michalina Olszańska portrays Mathilde, who was herself Polish

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mathilde_Kschessinska

But Nikolai himself being played by a God damned German?!
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lars_Eidinger

    lol

Again, in fairness, the Romanov family probably were like, at least, half-German, with all the Royal intermarriage going on in Europe back then for generations. His wife, Empress Alexandra, was a German from Germany, and is also played by a German actress, Luise Wolfram, in the film. Most of the rest of the cast are Russian though, of course.

But, yeah, a German playing a Russian Tsar... Doesn't sit well with many haha

So, now, you got folks throwing Molotov cocktails into studios... Bloody hell... I hope there won't be violence at the theaters too, like they promised...

    Fucking religious freaks...

A man rammed a vehicle rigged with gas canisters into a movie theater and concert hall in Yekaterinburg early on Monday, to oppose a new film depicting Tsar Nicholas' love affair, the E1 local media reported.

Footage of the incident showed the driver stepping out of a UAZ off-road van at the entrance to the Kosmos entertainment center before triggering an explosion.

Emergency services said they put out the flames within 30 minutes and rescued five people from the second floor of the building.

Regional police said in an online statement that it apprehended a man in his late 30s suspected of the attack on Kosmos after he sought medical assistance.

A source close to the investigation told the Znak.com news outlet that Denis Murashov, 39, claimed during an interrogation that he carried out the attack to prevent the screening of Alexei Uchitel’s “Mathilde.” The film, due for release in late October, depicts Tsar Nicholas' love affair with ballet dancer Mathilde Kschessinska.

The attack on the Kosmos center took place two days after it hosted the Ural Open Festival of Russian Cinema. More than 20 screenings had been scheduled for Monday, Sept. 4., according to the festival’s website.

Kosmos announced on its website that all film screenings would be postponed until Sept. 7, while concerts would go ahead as scheduled.

Yekaterinburg Mayor Yevgeny Roizman labeled the incident an act of “terrorism.”

Filmmaker Alexei Uchitel’s St. Petersburg studio was attacked with Molotov cocktails in the early hours of last Thursday. Uchitel accused the authorities at the time of ignoring repeated calls to take action in response to the intimidation.

A religious vigilante group warned cinema managers early this year that “cinemas would burn” if “Mathilde” was shown. The most high-profile critic of the biopic among Orthodox activists is State Duma Deputy Natalia Poklonskaya.

Poklonskaya and Orthodox activists have described the film as offensive to religious believers.

So, now, Poklonskaya is filing a lawsuit against Uchitel and his movie, apparently on behalf of Grand Duchess Olga Kulikovskaya-Romanova, widow the the last Tsar's nephew, who is over 90 years old, was born in Yugoslavia somewhere, and later ended up in Canada, is a Canadian citizen, but has, in recent years, returned to Russia and got involved in public life, feuding with other branches of the Romanov clan (her husband's father was a "commoner", a Cossack military officer, who married a princess against the family's wishes; they were rejected and shubbed for this even in exile, after the Revolution; which is why her Royal line is still considered illegitimate by many of the others. Her daughter and granddaughter live in Canada, right here in Toronto

Poklonskaya has befriended the kindly old lady

Here, they pray together at the church built as a monument on the site of the Royal Family's execution in Ekaterinburg

Now, exploiting her in her war with Uchitel; while the Duchess, at her advanced age, probably barely understands what's going on: https://life.ru/t/расследования/1042...prokat_matildy

Shameful, as other Russian commentators online have said.

If this had been the USA, I'd have snarked that those "good Christians" mistook the building for an abortion clinic.

Some nutcases over there attack abortion clinics too.

Here, members of a Orthodox nationalist group "God's Will" ("Bozhya Volya") stormed and forcibly took over an abortion clinic in Moscow, trashed and smashed up everything inside, and then hung their flag out the window, and threw out leaflets proclaiming abortion to be murder

Allegedly assaulted a nurse who tried to stop them also. Knocked out one of her teeth... They've done that shit on multiple occasions. Police never even shows up...

    Gandhi had them pegged.
