Anyone who thinks there is no need for unions has NO idea how vile some companies can be.

Or, they are invested in said vile companies.

I do not assume anything. I know what I observe.

A few would be wise to watch the History Channel. How the companies hired thugs to beat the workers, called in the Pinkertons, who shot workers like dogs.

Maybe then, they would get a slight glimmer of why Unions started.
    Thanks from labrea and jacobfitcher

They could be the people who made the company vile.

Vaguely but what does any of that have to do w/ the post he initially responded to?

This has nothing to do with the origin of unions. I don't care if unions crawled out of Mary's womb or descended from the heavens. Nothing that was going on 50 or 100 or 150 years ago legitimizes unions today.

And people who say things like this have no idea that unions infest our PUBLIC sector, not private.

Try re-reading the entire conversation to comprehend it. You suggested several factors, I offered up another more feasible factor owing to the impact of the GFC, and then you seem to have lost track of the conversation.

And people who say things like this have no idea that unions infest our PUBLIC sector, not private.
That is the reason for the beginning of Unions. And it sure as hell does explain why Unions are needed.

The demise of Unions are the reasons for companies making obscene profits, paying workers as low as they can.

Try reading a little History, you might understand.

Those of us old enough to have watched it happen know that companies smart enough to treat their workers well knew that. The Ford Motor company was one. Still run by the Ford family, they have always been generous. They also survived the Bush recession on their own.
