Just four words for you, "School of the Americas".

If you are referring to the US, we are not a democracy.

    A democratic-republic. Aren't you smart?

Now maybe YOU can answer the question, what holds a democracy together?

Republicans insist on pointing out, when discussing the electoral college, that we are not a democracy.

A sense of community, and faith in the system.

    No, I do, really.

It's just a way of saying, you cannot really believe that the United States has never brazenly, openly, flagrantly meddled in the democratic processes of other nations.

It is incumbent upon each nation to expect foreign interference and to deal with it through espionage, propaganda, or warfare, I suppose. If the Russians want to blow up our democracy, then we have to stop them.

Let's just not pretend we don't do the same thing anywhere it suits us. Ever heard of Saddam Hussein? You think he stays in power all those years without the U.S.? Or the Shah? Or Ferdinand Marcos? Or...

Is this really the place for vast dissertations on the theory and philosophy of democracy, of republican government? Any reasonable response to such an open-ended question would be a doctoral-level paper spanning thousands of years of history, incorporating numerous disciplines, roughly equivalent to the long-sought so-called "Theory of Everything" theoretical physicists pursue.
