REPUBLICAN House of Representatives tells Trump's DoJ to fuck off

Some ideas are just so amazingly stupid, unreasonable, and unfair that even Republicans have no choice but to say, "Fuck that!":

Congress unanimously votes to stop Trump DOJ from seizing assets of suspects

The lawmakers easily adopted an amendment via voice vote to a government-spending package that forbids the Trump administration to spend federal funds to strip government regulations on asset forfeiture. The amendment also undoes Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ attempted reversal of an Obama-era policy which keeps the federal government from seizing assets from local authorities, a practice which some local police take advantage of to get around stricter state laws.

My favourite part of the story was the quote from Michigan Representative Justin Amash:

“This practice is outrageous. It supplants the authority of states to regulate their own law enforcement and it further mires the federal government in unconstitutional asset forfeitures,” Rep Justin Amash (R-MI) said during House floor debate.

Yup. That is a Republican saying that Sessions is full of shit over his attempt to grab money that isn't his. Now, just so we're all talking about the same thing, keep in mind that this isn't about assets being seized by convicted criminals. We've been doing that for years. No. This is Billy Dunnothin, who just sold his car for 30 grand, and got paid cash. He's off to the bank to deposit it, and fails to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. Cops pull him over, decide he "looks shady", and search his car. They find a duffel full of money. They seize it, arrest him on suspicion of drug trafficking, and take him, and his money in. Investigation ensues, and he is determined to not be guilty. Billy gets his money back, right?

    WRONG

By right of what is known as "civil forfeiture", in most states, the state gets to keep the money. Well, Trump - not surprisingly - and Sessions decided they wanted in on some of this free cash, so they planned to change federal regulations to get in on the money grab. That is what the HoR just said, "Uh...no you don't!" to.

And, not surprising, no thoughts on this. I guess there just isn't any opportunity to turn this back on "Dims", so there isn't gonna be any feedback...

    It's around midnight.

    It's a complicated subject.

And states can still rob us blind, so it's hard to celebrate.

I was already asleep when this was posted.

But yes, I agree the whole idea of no-conviction asset forfeiture is absurd and a denial of due process at both the federal and state levels.

For Trump and movement conservative Republicans, there's nothing they won't steal.

There are all kinds of issues with the "Seizure of assets."

My brother got his truck stolen. He KNEW who stole it, and he TOLD authorities.

But, they weren't ll that concerned, it was just a truck.

A few days later, they pull over some skank driving it over in the projects, and arrest her (she was NOT the person who stole it, although, the real thief had left HER iphone and wallet in the truck....)

Police kept his truck for over a fucking MONTH. Tore the shit out of it, looking for drugs. Tried to get HIM to testify that the girl they found driving it was the person who stole it, when that was simply NOT the case.

He finally got his truck back, but, as I said, the police ripped some of it up, looking for drugs. He still has the bitch who stole it's iPhone and wallet (she literally asked him to return them.....he still has the phone, but trashed the wallet....)

What this tells me, is that much of the whole investigation was not serious, but, pretty much a bunglefuck. And, obviously the bitch who stole it, is not wanted on much, but, the skank caught driving it, is already assumed to have connections to larger crimes.

I am all for police doing what they can to catch and convict criminals, but, damn....how about not victimizing the victim, and ignoring the REAL culprit of the crime, while doing so...??

Why are Trump/Sessions on the side of wrongly keeping assets from innocent people?
    I call that stealing.

Are you actually so thick as to not be able to discern the difference between paying taxes and forfeiture of assets?

Really? This is why I simply cannot take Republicans seriously.
