    Threatening free speech

So often, we talk about free speech and say yes we are free from the government, but socially we have to expect that our free speech can have consequences.

    HELLO!

Trump IS the government! And he is threatening the free speech of NFL players!

Why is no one talking about that??????????
    Thanks from Friday13

might be because so many other things Trump is doing are even more frightening.
Hell, the guy is basically on "meltdown" watch. With the entire world wondering when he's going to finally lose it? Myself, I see the NFL thing as more of a labor issue than free speech. Even though the two intersect where Trump, as president, is concerned.

Because he's also threatening to revoke the licenses of major news networks simply because he doesn't like what they are reporting.

The moron doesn't even realize that the networks have no broadcasting licenses. Only their affiliated broadcasters do.

Besides, Trump is powerless to control what the NFL does regarding national anthem rituals. He could try to talk the military into ending their program to pay NFL teams for performing the national anthem at their games, but that's about the extent of his power in this arena.

People physically assaulting others for their political beliefs alone... IMO that would be a bigger threat to free speech.

YouTube / Google / twitter shadow banning and demonetizing people particularly if they are conservative is a bigger threat to free speech.

This made up story grossly exaggerating reality ... Not a big threat to free speech.

Donlad Trump using the power of the federal government against news reports he does not lilke.

First of all...everyone should understand he does not have that authority. Secondly it should set every conservatives teeth on edge to have someone threatening to use the government to silence a news outfit...but the Right are as big as hypocrites as Trump is.

Trump doesn't stop to think...any standard he would come up with for NBC would have FOX, Breitbart and Infowars shut down 10x faster...

I guess that is how the soviets did it, if someone commit a crime you arrest the whole block because others might know something about it.

Seriously though, you do know that before Antifa showed up the majority of people at that rally were actually opposing and shouting down the corner of white supremacists who were there?

Even if the woman was the worst of Antifa members, nobody deserves to be attacked randomly just for their presence within the group, and literally all people except those involved and some legitimate right wing extremists have decried that attack and anyone involved.

What does that say that to maintain relative moral superiority you need to associate anyone who disagrees with you as a white supremacist terrorist?
