Brave ladies, off to fight terror

New batch of female Syrian Arab Army (SAA) officers graduate military academy in Syria hours ago. Many will be heading straight to the front lines...

Many thousands of Syrian women have fought alongside men to defend their country from the plague of foreign backed terrorist groups that have engulfed Syria

Plenty have given their lives... The first unit of 500 women within the paramilitary National Defense Forces (NDF), the Lioneses of National Defense, was formed back in 2013. But there were female volunteers in the ranks before then too, some all the way back in 2011, from very early in the war.

Here is a new elite all-female sniper unit formed this year, back in March, reportedly trained by Russian SOF

All the deadly ladies are widows of Syrian troops killed in battle with jihadis. All signed up to avenge their husbands...

Of course, you won't read about them in Western media. It's all about the damn Kurds here Even though the Lioneses of the NDF and SAA went to the front BEFORE the Kurds first formed their female YPJ units...

So sick of the political bs.

Hey, some women take care of themselves wherever they are, even in battle.

I've seen, for example, pics of female separatist fighters in Donbass

They got their nails all done too

Well, it is a current even, in that it just happened:

No, they fight for their country.

Btw, the SAA appointed their first ever woman general this year, Nibal Madhat Badr

Syrian Army appoints first woman to become high-ranking general

What the fuck does it matter? You're as petty and snotty as a child. It's a fucking joke to you these women are fighting and dying for their country?

There is a stereotype out there, that female soldiers become all manly. As my own father has said, "War is no place for broads" (just in that exact sort of language, in my rough translation) and women who do join the military and/or go to fight somewhere "are not women anymore".

    Yeah, not true.

    Yeah, not true.
That is such an odd attitude for a Russian to have. Like, did he forget the GPW or what?

Hell, GPW... Did he forget the 90s? The women who fought alongside the men for Abkhazia's independence from Georgia?

Unique photo, truly. Two of Abkhazia's most famous combat nurses from the war against Georgia, in back row: Lyalia Arshba, on right; Irina Gotseridze in middle.

Arshba participated in many of most horrific battles of the war; once snuck food behind enemy lines to families in towns besieged by the Georgians (including my own hometown on one occasion); and, being herself a native of a village high in the mountains, led several times diversionary groups of men through there, remote, rugged areas, to ambush the enemy. Eventually was killed when a helicopter she was on was shot down by the Georgians.

Gotseridze, as her name suggests, was an ethnic Georgian, whose town was occupied by the Georgian National Guard. She hid her Abkhazian neighbors and friends from them in her home. When they learned she was helping Abkhazians, they arrested her and tortured her horribly, ripping out many of her teeth, among other things. Later, separatist fighters attacked the town and the jail where she was held, and freed her (she was already well known, Abkhazians who escaped from the occupied town told the separatists about how she helped people, and begged that they rescue her). She then took up arms alongside the insurgency. Showed herself as an excellent markswoman, with her AKM. Saved many more lives, as a combat nurse. Once, carried a sounded and unconscious man on her back across a river! Was killed in battle not long after that...

These women are venerated in Abkhazia as national heroes. And they ain't only ones...

Told this to dad when he said that. He had no answer, except that this was a "special time". The whole country was in peril. So, of course all, men and women rose to fight... Just like GPW. In fact, in Abkhazia, the 90s war against the Georgians is referred to as the 2nd GPW, btw...

But in regular peacetime, he thinks women don't belong in the military.

Typical backward Cossack, in other words...
