Wall Streeter corrects Trump's fake math on the deficit, dude that's not how it works

I didn't really know who this guy was till I moved 'home' (the office) and started keeping msnbc on in the background during the day. He came over from the MONEY channel side to the news side. He's a real earnest guy, no bullshit, but very personable, but takes no prisoners when someone gets it wrong. And then explains (or rips) whatever story with facts and figures replete with graphs and charts and other visual aids. Great 'explainer' to the common man about complex subjects

At the risk of pooh poohing Trump's $12BIL paltry sum, that was before 3 hurricanes. (Sucked that up x 4 with the emergency aid package put through Congress this week).

PS And at the risk of the 'stating the obvious', Velshi is correcting BS from Hannity's interview. Hannity, even if he wasn't sucking up, wouldn't have known the questions to ask to 'drill down'.

MSNBC’s Ali Velshi corrects Trump’s fake math on the deficit: ‘Dude, nuh-uh. That’s not how it works’

MSNBC’s Ali Velshi took President Donald Trump to the woodshed for comments the president made in a Fox News interview with Sean Hannity.

Trump claimed that gains in the stock market during his first nine months in office have erased the federal deficit left behind by the Obama administration.
“Dude,” said Velshi. “Nuh-uh. That’s not how it works.”

“That is an erroneous claim by the president of the United States,” he continued. “For fact’s sake, increases in the stock market have absolutely no connection to the debt.”
Velshi — a veteran financial and consumer affairs reporter — explained that the only way to reduce debt is to raise taxes, to have strong economic growth or to reduce spending.

“That’s it,” he said. “Those are the only ways. It’s got nothing to do with the stock market.”

The president’s boasts to Hannity, Velshi said, were “just dishonest.”...

So he's admitting that Obama left behind a huge deficit.

I guess he is honest after all.

Ali Velshi is an expert in finance. He left CNN to go to Ajazeera because he wanted to be able to do real Journalism. I watched him faithfully.

When they closed down NBC snapped him right up. You will get no bs from Ali. The most respected journalist I know.

Many are surprised, but he was a star on CNN for years. Ruhle has a great deal of experience, too.

You want to watch Ari Melber at 6PM, too he is one brilliant man.

That is news to you? Is the great recession of 2009 also news to you?

What does Trump say about his tax deal adding to the deficit? Is Trump's plan a tax neutral deal...not adding to the deficit?
    Thanks from Friday13

I knew his name, don't think I even recognized his face. And as mentioned, when I started watching 'daytime TV', I discovered him. The guy is GREAT! He and Ruhle seem very well matched. (Some news director called that one right). Talk about take no prisoners, she's fierce and again coming from Wall Street you can't bullshit her either!

Math and facts are not Republican or Democrat. Explain how Velshis is wrong in his assessment.
