Slots well into the general perception that this trip was a colossal failure, that Trump allowed himself to be perceived as publicly captured by his hosts. I mean, his flowering praise for Xi Jinping and Rodrigo Duterte are really some of the most embarrassing moments in American foreign policy history.

And he got nothing for it. It was in effect a grand Donald Trump gilded vacation, not even worth covering because he has no deliverables from it whatsoever. It pains me to write this, because we *need* to have a successful foreign policy, and I earnestly don't want to see this. I want to see a strong and engaged America. But we have still more evidence that cannot happen under this man.
    Thanks from OldGaffer and OHjulie

That's the most appropriate metaphor. The 'traveling salesman'! I can't go home till I make a sale! Classic.

True, it was a total failure, just like all his other foreign policy initiatives.

Quit overreacting, there was nothing wrong with this trip, he met leaders in that part of the world and that was the goal.

To touch base, give some speeches and do what presidents do.

He is our top diplomat and this is one part of his job.

There were no grandiose expectations other than from the left.
