Shep Smith hits Trump for claims on Uranium One deal

Fox News host Shepard Smith blasted President Trump on Tuesday for “inaccurate” claims about the Uranium One agreement following Trump’s repeated calls for the Justice Department to investigate the deal. On his show, Smith laid out the controversy surrounding the Obama-era deal, which involved the sale of a uranium company that did some mining in the United States to a Russian company.

Smith then played a clip from a June 2016 speech Trump gave in New York City in which he repeated the claim.“Hillary Clinton’s State Department approved the transfer of 20 percent of America’s uranium holdings to Russia, while nine investors in the deal funneled $145 million dollars to the Clinton Foundation,” Trump said in the speech. Smith called the statement "inaccurate in a number of ways."

"The Clinton State Department had no power to approve or veto that transaction. It could do neither," the Fox News host noted. Smith then laid out the approval process for the sale, which involves a nine-person committee made up of the heads of federal agencies, and noted that no one person could approve or veto the deal - only former President Obama could do either. The Fox News anchor also detailed Trump’s claim that the Clinton Foundation received money after the deal was completed.

Here, the timing is inaccurate,” Smith said, noting that the source of the majority of the donations, Frank Giustra, said he sold his stake in the uranium company before the company was sold and before Clinton became secretary of State. “The accusation is predicated on the charge that Secretary Clinton approved the sale,” Smith said. “She did not. A committee of nine evaluated the sale, the president approved the sale, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and others had to offer permits, and none of the uranium was exported for use by the U.S. to Russia. That is Uranium One.

I bet they are bummed that that this story, like so many others told by Mr. Moron, is fake news.

That's why I don't understand the insistence on any investigation of this. Hillary had NO control over whether this deal happened or not and if it was brought up today it would again be approved by all the same agencies.

There isn't going to be an investigation.

I know that is going to upset a few of our members here.

It was a "ruse" used by Mr. Moron to gin up his base and distract from all things Russian.

Awe, that's another conspiracy theory blown up. This plus efforts of some people to remove Rosenstein from the investigation blew up. He was cleared of involvement in the uranium one deal by Sessions in congressional testimony.

"Mr. Chairman I would just note the matter that was persecuted was concerning Uranium Russian business was 2 years after this (Sevious?) investigation when Mr Rosenstein worked on, brought to his office. It was unrelated to the allegations of uranium one investigation as I understand it."

I noticed the news reports this morning riding in the car when the radio was on a local news station that normally just reports the news straight. It doesn't generally have a political bent.

    https://wtop.com/

But this morning it completely left out some facts. Like, the State Department vote was only one vote of several agencies and Hillary didn't have veto power over it. The reporting very much gave the impression that Hillary could have been bribed through the Clinton Foundation. (There is nothing about it on their website now.) But apparently other news orgs did the same and others noticed. Josh Marshall had this to say on Twitter.

Then apparently the Times changed it, but it wasn't much better.

Everyone knows this is all that happened, and everyone knows that Hillary Clinton did nothing wrong when the State Department joined eight other agencies in approving the deal. But this is no longer about Clinton anyway. The whole thing is a last-ditch attempt to smear special prosecutor Robert Mueller, who headed the FBI when the Uranium One deal went through and is now causing Republicans a lot of heartburn over his investigation of Trump-Russia ties.² Blow enough smoke over this, and maybe he’ll be forced to resign—and a new, less aggressive special prosecutor can be appointed. It’s all pretty transparent, and every reporter writing about this knows exactly what’s going on.

I realize that mainstream media orgs go out of their way to appear unbiased by doing crap like this, but it doesn't help their credibility.
Thanks from the watchman and HayJenn
