Impeachment vote today on House floor

Not sure this is a good idea.

Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) says he intends to force a vote Wednesday to impeach President Donald Trump, a move that Democratic leaders have long sought to fend off despite increasing agitation from a small faction of liberal members.

“I love my country,” Green wrote in a letter to colleagues on Tuesday. “For this reason, I will bring articles of impeachment to a vote in the House of Representatives.” Under House procedures, lawmakers may offer “privileged” motions on impeachment, which means an individual member can force consideration of the subject. GOP leaders who control the House intend to vote to table it, an aide said. That would force Democrats, for the first time, to go on the record on a measure that would call for Trump's removal from office — and face awkward politics when many likely join Republicans to bury the measure without immediate consideration.

Only a handful of Democrats have called for Trump's impeachment and removal, while Democratic leaders have called such discussions premature. Green nearly forced an impeachment vote in October but pulled back amid pressure from Democratic leadership. Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi has said she's opposed to pursuing impeachment and has complained about Democratic megadonor Tom Steyer’s ad calling for Trump’s impeachment.

Sounds fairly stupid. Trump is, in my wise opinion a fucking idiot with nefariously illegal intentions, but why vote on this until here is an actual reason or some firm evidence of his violation of of the laws?

Reminds me of the dipshit GOPers that sat there putting forth articles of impeachment for Obama to score points with their idiot, masturbating watching Hannity base. It amounted to nothing more than folks providing spank bank fodder to those incapable of thought.

I think the problem then becomes, who cares? We will be beginning the 2020 campaign season at that point and I do think a lot of people (on both sides) will want to keep Trump in office to run against him. They want him there as they feel he is easy to beat. I just dont see too many caring at that point, focus will be on 2020.

Grandstanding. The democrats need to get out of the business of "standing" for principle and start doing shit.

They should be offering amendment after amendment on the floor of the house to undo the worst of the Trump tax cuts and making the Republicans vote no. Make them go on the record on as having supported the worst measures in this bill.

They are just following the GOPs lead. They spent 8 years going after Obama and it worked for them. So democrats figure they can do the same. Problem is most democrats dont like bumper sticker slogans and want real policy ideas. Being anti Trump may work temporarily but not long term. We saw that with being anti GWBush in 2008, it won them the WH but then the losses mounted.

That's what I was thinking. Get people on record now. Force them to declare. It's relatively useless, but it may have some political weight later.
