VA Secretary David Shulkin reportedly told those on the call that the money for the program would now go to VA hospitals for use as they see fit. The hospitals must show that they are working to deal with homelessness as part of their work, according to Politico.

Activists and officials were reportedly furious about the decision, five people who listened in on the call told the news organization.Elisha Harig-Blaine of the National League of Cities told Politico after the call that the VA was “putting at risk the lives of men and women who’ve served this country.” The decision comes after a joint press conference between Shulkin and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson at a Washington, D.C. homeless shelter in which the two announced a new commitment to ending homelessness among the nation’s veterans.

The program provides housing vouchers to veterans via the Department of Housing and Urban Development while the VA continues helping veterans find more permanent housing. More than half of the veterans housed via the program have problems like chronic illness or substance abuse, according to Politico.

I guess respecting our vet's is out the window now???
The link whos very clearly that the funding will go to the VA which still has to demonstrate that they are dealing with the homeless veteran problem.

No disrespect at all what in fact has happened is elimination of one layer of red tape.

The money will go through one agency instead of two.

You want to live that way than fine but don't expect me to prop you up while you do.

My only disagreement here is insinuating that homeless vets are somehow different than homeless anyone else.
They are different. A Vietnam Vets commits suicide nearly every hour. These guys have seen shit you'll never have to see. Many have PSTD.
What about those who have lost limbs or brain injuries. You think it's easy for them to get a job? Maybe we shouldn't send our men and women off to fight senseless wars.

The President you voted for made statements on the campaign trail that would help our vets. He lied. Once again you are backing this Bullshitter In Chief.

    You're a phony.

And how do you know they were not merely a swabbie on an aircraft carrier who never saw combat of any kind.

Moist veterans serve boring tours of duty with no action even in vietnam

Once again it shows stupid democats cannot read.

They are not SLASHING ANYTHING it is turning the care for HOMELESS VETERANS (of which most are mentally ill) to the VA HOSPITALS which will have to prove they are prepared to deal with the homeless VA Population.

nothing more stupid than a LIEberal that cannot read

    From the OP source

The Department of Veterans Affairs is slashing funding for a key program that helps provide housing to homeless veterans, according to a new report.
Politico reports the VA told advocates and state officials in a call last week that the $460 million program would essentially end.
VA Secretary David Shulkin reportedly told those on the call that the money for the program would now go to VA hospitals for use as they see fit. The hospitals must show that they are working to deal with homelessness as part of their work, according to Politico.
