It's OK for a woman to ask a man to stop touching her if it makes her feel uncomfortable.

In fact many leftist here will argue that a man in that case who is accused should be removed from office.

But, when the boot is on the other foot, and it is the man who feels uncomfortable, then he is automatically labeled a homophobe.

    Let me ask you.

If Rep. Bradford had made that comment to a woman would this even be in a thread?

It's called bodily autonomy and everyone has that RIGHT.
No problem with, "please don't touch me". The problem was the tirade after. Nobody asked the guy his sexual orientation and the touch on the arm to get the guys' attention was not sexual in the least. Nobody appreciated his outburst. It made him look petty. It be littles what sexual harassment really is all about.

Seeing as how that is the effect, perhaps it was the intent.

We might find him in an airport men's room doing finger signals underneath a stall door??

    In Your Heart!

Exclamation The New Republican Standard Between Men In America

It sure appears like they may be asking and hoping for the following, huh?

The New Right-Wing Standard Between Men In America

    1. No further playing Football anymore as that is a "contact" sport therefore, not acceptable behavior between men.

    2. No further "buddy-buddy" picture taking since that could be offensive to the other male you have your arm around.

    3. No further touching on the arm or elbow or back by one male on another in order to gain their attention. Yikes! What Horror! What was he thinking!

    4. No further sitting close together in a tight space between men as that might be considered to be acting fresh and could be interpreted as being highly offensive to the other male.

    5. No further massages to be given by a male masseur to another male as that might be interpreted as being tantamount to inappropriate touching.

    6. No further male barbers touching men on the face, neck and head while at the barber shop.

    7. No further All-Male Gyms!! Good Heavens! That should be a no-brainer!!

    8. No further showering among males! The law must dictate that they have completely separate showering facilities with locking doors!

    9. No further All-Male Fraternities. How inappropriate they are!

    10. No further greeting by a male towards another male with a friendly smile as they might consider that sexual harassment. And No further Head Nodding used as a greeting either as that could be construed as being an enticement to follow the guy.

    11. No further military barracks where two or more men can share a room or area where they sleep together!! Each man must have their own private room.

    12. No further fitness training by a male with a male client!

    13. No further Prostate Examinations by doctors done on another male! Nothing further need be said there!

    14. No further cable-jumping by mechanics or towing companies to be done with male clients as that could be interpreted as engaging in a "Hook-Up!"

    15. And finally, no further Heimlich Maneuver to be performed by a man on another man. The proximity is just too close to one another for comfort. Too bad fella, you just have to suffer it out and do the best you can on your own!

Oh how ultra sensitive! Time was when a man could gently touch another one on the arm or elbow or back to gain their attention and the person would simply turn and acknowledge that they were being called. However, imho, if inappropriate touching was the intent it would not have been done on the arm as the Representative did nor in an open meeting with many people and cameras rolling that much is for certain. But this overreaction by Republicans is truly laughable. It goes beyond the pale. Suddenly, a mere slight touch on the arm or elbow to gain their attention becomes an intolerable act.

Yep. That was a pretty bizarre reaction.

Thought the "perpetrator" handled the situation well. Didn't try to counter or escalate the outburst.

No. The guy went completely over the top.

This really isn't a "close one".

It is interesting to watch the double-standards play out and the cognitive dissonance manifest itself.

The man has the right not to be touched and even if other people touch them, he has the right to not be touched specifically citing homosexuality of the person as the cause for the discomfort.

I as one of those previously mentioned Italians would probably have to hold myself back from licking someone's cheek but hey maybe the guy just wants some space.

I mean we live in an age of manspreading, mansplaining and if I watch you take the picture of your own butt that you are going to post on your Instagram feed for your million follows to look at, then I'm ogling you.

If you don't like what grows, plant some different seeds. When you constantly paint those you disagree with as evil, Hitler, subhumans who want the death of the planet and humanity in general, they they probably don't want a hug or arm pat from you.

The lengths to which right wingers will try to excuse their behavior is like raising teenagers, the conversation gets so absurd that as an adult you wonder if you are going to go insane raising these kids. The man went from talking to the group to being touched on the arm by another man to making a statement about homosexuality. There is no connection between one man touching another mans arm to get his attention in a meeting and sex. None. The only person thinking about sex was the idiot who made the statement about sex. Not another single person at that meeting or watching it saw it as sexual contact. Got that kids? Now go back to your room and finish your homework.
    Thanks from MaryAnne
