Trump's Jerusalem fallout: Hamas leader calls for new 'intifada'

The leader of the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas called Thursday for a new "intifada" or uprising against Israel after President Trump said the U.S. would recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital and begin moving its embassy to the city.
In a news conference in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, Ismail Haniya said Washington's decision amounted to a "war declaration against Palestinians" that "killed" the Israel-Palestinian peace process.

It came after the Palestinian "national and Islamic forces" announced three days of rage starting Wednesday and ending Friday.

American leaders should have reassured Europeans and the Middle East that Trump's decree will not go through and the next president will choose where the Embassy will remain.

Trump will be to blame for any violence and any bloodshed that comes out of this. Same as Obama and Hillary Clinton for Benghazi and Libya in general.

You never know what Trump will do, so it would be hard for anyone else to give such an assurance.

Thats what happens when promises are broken

Corpus separatum (Latin for "separated body") is a term used to describe the Jerusalem area in the 1947 United Nations Partition Plan for Palestine. According to the plan the city would be placed under international regime, conferring it a special status due to its shared religious importance. The corpus separatum was one of the main issues of the Lausanne Conference of 1949, besides the other borders and the question of the right of return of Palestinian refugees. The plan was adopted by the General Assembly with a two-thirds majority, although its implementation failed and nowadays the view that Jerusalem should be the capital of both Israel and Palestine is widely supported internationally.[1][2]

This seems to be an element of the story that belongs in the discussion.

"In 1995, Congress passed the historic Jerusalem Embassy Act. That legislation codified American policy while outlining a series of crucial facts related to the Israeli capital. The bill noted that “each sovereign nation under international law may designate its own capital.” It also recognized that, since 1950, Jerusalem has been Israel’s capital city, and observed that Israel’s president, its parliament, its supreme court and various government ministries were all located there.

The bill also noted that the Holy City was divided from 1948-1967, but after its reunification in 1967 Israel has administered the entire city, while steadfastly guaranteeing full access to holy sites within the city for people of all faiths.

Every six months since the law was passed, presidents have had the option of enacting a waiver to delay fulfilling America’s promise to its people and to Israel. Successive Democratic and Republican presidents have shirked their responsibilities, but at long last, President Trump will be ensuring that America does what is right.

Moving the US embassy to Jerusalem is the right call | TheHill
