Of course, those wealthier residents are paying for services at the state level--services that might otherwise have to be paid for by the Fed, so it's not unfair.
They are basically keeping their wealthier residents' wealth in the state, while passing off much of the costs associated with funding the nation on the residents of states that have low or no state income tax.
But they aren't passing off any costs to the nation because all the states we're talking about pay more in federal tax than they get in services. They aren't "passing off" anything. That pretty much eviscerates your argument.

Discounting state tax has always been a part of the federal system, but low tax states are still net gainers and high tax states are still net losers in the federal tax system. This reform will make that WORSE. How greedy do those low tax states want to be? They get their federal benefits paid for by someone else already.

I agree. I don't see how it's unconstitutional. Wrong, but not unconstitutional.

Again, how was it not double taxation before? Before, you got a deduction, such that you reduced your tax burden by a small percentage of what you paid. For example, if you paid $10K in State taxes, and had a marginal tax rate of 10%, you are only relieving $1000 of that $10K you paid. Ergo, double taxation.

The question remains, why should the rest of the country pay for taxes that only benefit one state?
Why should california and new york fund red states with our federal tax dollars?

Residents of Red and Blue states fund the federal government through federal taxes.

Why should residents of high tax states pay less?

Cuomo, who described the Trump presidency as “the most hostile federal administration in history,” said the changes to state and local tax deductions in the bill will raise New Yorkers’ property and income taxes by at least 20 percent. The governor added that New York state already contributes $48 billion more annually to the federal government than it gets back.

Good for him. This is what happens when you rush a bill through with no hearings and was done mainly to please the big GOP donors.
Trying to save face that his state has such high taxes and he wants federal tax policy to bail him out.

Same for California their taxing policies are such a burden on the people they need federal tax policy to cover their ass.

    Mr. Thor,

That has been my point for a long time. Instead of complaining about the highest state income taxes in the nation, the highest sales tax in the nation, increasingly higher property taxes ever year due to added on assessments, onerous business taxes that have driven up the prices of goods and services, whiny liberal Californians are complaining about losing a federal tax break.
    Thanks from THOR
