School Board Pres. on teacher arrest: Everyone wants to side with the "little woman"'

Louisiana school board president on teacher arrest: Everyone wants to side with the 'poor little woman' | Fox News

    Full Video of Event:

This woman was exercising her 1st Amendment Rights and the local government decided that they are above the U.S. Constitution. She was petitioning them, with permission to speak, on why the Administrator was receiving a $30,000 raise when the teachers have not received raises in years. The claim by the board was that she was "off topic", yet in this very meeting they approved the $30,000 raise.

The reaction by the School Board President is indicative of the attitude by the government in this area and elsewhere. I have seen it firsthand in my area. I am active in education where I live with the underprivileged. It never ceases to amaze me how ready administrators and school boards are to run over people that are question their acts.

That school board President is retarded. She was completely in her right to ask those questions. This is blatant corruption

That's why I'd never suggest to one of my students that they teach anywhere without a union. Unions are the only way to stand up to such high-handed behavior, which is exercised in disputes over pay, benefits, and working conditions as well.

Exactly right, and besides that the union can protect teachers from frivolous lawsuits and unfounded accusations. All a student has to do is claim, "he touched me," and the teacher is in for an expensive legal battle. The choice there is to depend on a public defender, mortgage the house to pay legal bills, or get support from the union. I'd not enter a classroom without the protection of the union, not in today's society.

Never thought of it that way. Makes sense.

I will never pretend that the Teacher's Unions are some great benevolent force. I have watched them protect teachers that have molested children and have their records sealed. They will allow horrible teachers to remain employed, because they are "protected". This event is not about the Unions, but runaway local governments that do not honor the 1st Amendment, or apparently the 4th Amendment.

Unions don't solve this problem. In California, with some of the strongest teacher's unions in the nation, the administrators make outrageous sums of money, but the teachers don't speak out, because they are living large too.

Sounds like in a teacher's case, unions might be more beneficial than harmful

I will agree, that man lost his mind. But, otherwise the generalization is too great.
