But this is also true: White nationalists, neo-Nazis, Klansmen, and other racist groups who marched through the University of Virginia’s campus and in Charlottesville last weekend did so because they have been empowered by the presidency of Donald Trump. Don’t take my word for it. Look at the photos of those wearing “Make America Great Again” hats in Charlottesville. Listen to the words of arch-racist David Duke, who said his goal in attending the Charlottesville event was to “fulfill the promises of Donald Trump.” Remember that one of the rally’s organizers, chief alt-rightist Richard Spencer, once said his movement has a “psychic connection” with Trump. Scroll through the countless Twitter accounts with swastikas and racist memes posted in between or alongside statements of support for Trump’s candidacy and presidency.

Given all this, Trump has a duty—as the president of the United States, as the head of a major political party, as a decent American—to make clear that these people are mistaken, that white supremacists and neo-Nazis have nothing in common with Trump’s agenda or his vision for the country. It does no good to say, in the same breath, that “both sides” are a part of the problem. The problem is that one side, the violent, racist side, believes they have an ally in the White House. And they have increasingly good reason to think that.

At least some people still have principles.
I wish I could say it better but that would be impossible. Great post. And yeah, The weekly standard is Bill Kristol's baby. The same Bill Kristol who advocated the war in Iraq.

I've bben around for almost 70 years and I've gotta say that this past year has been the largest outbreak of unAmerican venom and congressional cowardice I've ever seen. I don't think it's hyperbole to say I'm beginning to understand how Hitler happened and how millions marched unwittingly to their demise. And, I understand much better the meaning of "when good people do nothing etc..." Madness is indeed, contagious.

Im positive that those that supported Hitler denied all the claims of wrong-doing.

Every Trump supporter on this board, sees what Trump has said as ...nothing wrong. In fact, they go out of their way to justify what Donald said as....'correct'.

That's what he said. Word for word.

And you are the one who is spinning - as I never said White Nationalist are fine people. SO I would ask you to stop printing falsehoods about me.
But he has a habit of letting fly with the venom and then back tracking not long after. After his peeps ask him to restate everything. He can't help himself. The hate just spills out automatically. Those are his only moments of honesty and the only time we see what he really thinks.

Yes, some places in the world have serious problems. But the president of the United States calling those places shitholes and declaring that he doesn't want people from those places, like Haiti and African countries that are majority black, coming here but he wants lily white people from Norway coming here is racist. Everyone on the planet knows what he meant. You can pretend it's okay all you want, but it doesn't change the fact that he was being racist.

Wrong answer. Try answering me this time: What countries do you think he meant? The blond ones or the dark ones?

Even after the war, Germans claimed not to know what was going on in the camps, even those who lived right next to them. The townspeople were forced to look, and in some places to dig graves for the dead.

I agree with that. Willful ignorance can have devastating consequences and should be considered aiding and abetting.
