SPINELESS RYAN, Trump remarks 'unhelpful and unfortunate'. Day late, dollar short!

Really goes out on a limb there, huh?

Ryan calls Trump 's---hole' remarks 'unhelpful' and 'unfortunate'

Breaking his silence, Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on Friday called President Trump's "shithole countries" remarks "very unfortunate" and "unhelpful," noting that he himself was a descendant of Irish immigrants who had faced prejudice and hostilities when they first moved to America.

The Speaker said he had read press accounts Thursday night about Trump’s immigration meeting with lawmakers in which he reportedly complained about restoring protected status for immigrants from “shithole countries” like Haiti, El Salvador and some African nations.

“The first thing that came to my mind was very unfortunate, unhelpful,” Ryan said at a WisPolitics event in Milwaukee. “But you know what I thought of right away? I thought of my own family.

“My family, like a whole lot of people, came from Ireland on what they called coffin ships and came here and worked the railroads. The Irish were really looked down upon in those days,” Ryan said, detailing how his ancestors emigrated from Ireland and ended up in Janesville, Wisconsin.

“I hear all these stories from my relatives about ‘Irish need not apply.’ [The Irish] could basically get constructions jobs, cops or firefighter jobs. And James and Catherine Ryan came over and literally worked the railroad until they had enough money to buy a farm, which happened to be outside of Janesville, Wisconsin....

‘His spine has been removed’: Watch Nicolle Wallace blast ‘incredible shrinking man’ Paul Ryan
    BOB BRIGHAM
    12 JAN 2018 AT 17:12 ET - RAW STORY

MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace, host of 'Deadline: White House'

MSNBC’s Dateline: White House examined the extent to which President Donald Trump’s alleged racism are enabled by Republican Party leaders — in particular Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI).

Anchor Nicolle Wallace played a clip of Speaker Ryan responding to Trump’s alleged ‘sh*thole’ comments.

“Oh my God, did you say that? An ice storm is unfortunate, and we have friends from Africa? That’s like 20, 40 years ago, when people would say, ‘I have a friend that’s a lesbian,'” Wallace suggested. “I mean, what was that? What?” Wallace asked Washington Post White House Bureau Chief Phil Rucker.

“To me, that was the most outrageous thing that happened today,” Wallace concluded. “What’s wrong with him?”

“This is Paul Ryan, this is how he was during the campaign, it’s how he’s been all year,” Rucker answered.

“He’s like the incredible shrinking man,” Wallace observed. “It’s like his spine has been remove
d and he’s trying to diminish himself as a moral human being, as a leader, by the hour, by the day.”

“He sees himself as a moral leader,”
    Rucker began to reply.

    “He’s not,” Wallace interrupted.

“But he doesn’t actually challenge this president and he’ll say it’s because he wants to advance the tax cuts or whatever,” Rucker continued.

“Tax cuts have been passed,” Wallace reminded.

the Republicans are the party of luke-warm oatmeal.

No wonder Trump supporters wanted a so-called man. Spineless.

Who would have believed it would be Sen. Lindsey Graham to call out Trump to his face.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Friday that he said his piece directly to President Trump at a White House meeting on immigration reform the previous day where Trump reportedly disparaged several nations as "shithole countries."

Graham was present at the bipartisan meeting in the Oval Office where Trump reportedly referred to Haiti, El Salvador and several African nations as "shithole countries" after lawmakers suggested that immigrants from the countries be provided protections.

"Following comments by the President, I said my piece directly to him yesterday. The President and all those attending the meeting know what I said and how I feel. I've always believed that America is an idea, not defined by its people but by its ideals," Graham said in a statement on Friday.
